Nothing to do with being "stealth", it's just something fun. Considering what Leica has done over the decades with the Nexus versions, Safari versions, Hermes Limited Editions my addition of a little black dot (which was a present from the very nice gentleman in Singapore) seems pretty reserved. At the end of the day it's just a way of personalizing my camera, which makes me happy as I tend to have it with me more than not.

Completely agree. I love making things a bit more "my own" – that's part of the fun. Buy a guitar, add some mods! Buy a camera, change the dot! Hell, I even bought one of these

and made it look like THIS

Now it's stealthy, and no-one notices when I make music on it

It's now available here Leica Rangefinder Camera Specialist - Fotopia Gallery & Camera Equipment

Do you think this is Leica official black logo or it's repainted red?

At DAG, one can get a red one for $28. I doubt Leica would charge extra$40 for black version. It's not like Jony redesigned it ;-)

For $58 for a black one I will have to live with red a little longer. Here's the thing: when you are using the camera, looking through the viewfinder (or the EVF) you do not see the dot, whether red or black.:)

Leica will only do black dots for the M8.2. Normally the replacement is free during service.

Got a black dot from DAG today and put it on my black M. I have always kept my M's stock (no accessories, cases, etc.), but just happen to like the black dot. Did the same on a silver M8.2.

Don uses standard M red dots and paints them himself, with his usual quality control. Leica will probably charge an extra $1000 for a cosmetically tweaked M at some point. I like the $40 version.
