I was in Venice at the back of the year and someone came up to me on a bridge in Burano and said "How do you like the new Leica M?". I nearly fell in the water.

When i was recently in Yosemite, an M9 owner asked me if my trusty old D2 was the new M.......how i wished that was so i told him.

Now that i look at the silver M240 i see the closeness in looks.

It's interesting that Leica's logo is disliked by as many as it is, though this site is hardly representative. It's seems to apply to the M uniquely and we don't see those with X's, S's, compacts and binoculars seeking to de-dot their cameras etc. Fortunately, Leica are not as liberal with the things as when they used to stick them on the sides of R lenses too.

I like the classic Leica script and it works much better for me than the dated logos from, for example, Ford Motor Company and (for those in the UK), Boots. I like the script on the top of the M9-P and I would have liked to have this on the M240. I expect it will be possible to have it engraved but that with the red dot still there sounds like overkill. The MM of course is a master of stealth with neither.

In due course, I expect we will be able to upgrade our cameras...

Like it and it's size on the silver chrome M, which I have pre-ordered. I think it looks modern and the placement has grown on me.

If I went with a black M body I'd want it M9-P / MM style. No dot. But I won't go black until they make the ghastly thumb wheels on the back black too. Too much time rummaging around in the PanaLeica design book for my liking!

Perhaps we can have Godzilla instead of Gorilla glass then ;) but an M-P like this would not be too ugly. Would it coexist with the MP by the way? M10 and M10-P would have been too simple i guess. Why doing simple when one could do complicated.

Very nicely done. I prefer the front of the camera without the frame-selector as well - a feature I hardly ever use. I wish the lens release was somehow less visible - and what's the other button? I've missed that one up to now. Take the last few bits of clutter away it would be perfect.

I figure it's not a big deal... I believe in urban camoflage, so I'm going to spray paint my camera various shades of concrete gray to blend in. All it costs is a couple of minutes of time to mask off the glass, and a couple of cans of different shades of flat Rustoleum gray paint. I'd like to do patches like military camo, but spray paint isn't that precise on such a small object, so I'll just wing it. Rustoleum covers the red nicely, and bonds well with whatever that black grippy stuff is they put all over the body. :D

At most fairs or special events, the air brush painters come out. These guys and gals can certainly direct the flow better than some can of paint. Plus they can paint it to look like your face and then no one would notice you even have a camera up to your eye.:D:D

Thanks LCT, I like.

The other button is the focus assist button (in live view only). Hold it down and turn the thumb dial for exposure compensation (all modes)

Simple; Leica gave the frame selector an automatic drop-off feature :(

not so much the dislike of the logo, but the color of it! the red is just too conspicuous. i would prefer a black dot or none at all.

Aesthetically beats the original - pay attention Leica.

Maybe M(240)P will come with improved fps EVF and/or other fix for whatever problem comes to light post release.

Although I might get over the point that Leica lost the illumination window on the new M, I already have nightmares about the red dot. In my opinion it is as ugly as the M4-P's.

My photography improved big time once I installed a black dot onto my M9. Suddenly my unobtrusiveness helped me blend with the concrete. No one recognised me for the bore I am.

I still cherish a spare black dot at a secret hiding place, but as the dot-type-240 seems to be larger than the dot-type-M9, what can i do about it? please help and advise!

A piece of tape is probably the safest solution until you get yourself a black dot somewhere.

I understand the urgency to remove any visual "fish lures".

Anything bright is bad ... if you want to not be seen. Chrome is way more flashy than black. Red is like a laser sight.

I once held up my 2 M4's in front of a college photography class I was teaching. One was a chrome M4, and one was a black M4 body.

I asked the class; "which one was bigger?". They all pointed to the chrome body. ...

same camera !!?.

That answered the question for me.

I had always had black bodies before that, and since then nothing but.

I even used to darken, using the no longer made Kodak spotting colors, the white lettering at the front of my Leica lenses. The spotting colors could easily be removed so that was good, if I wanted to sell the lens.

Some people like to show themselves. Others don't

Just back from a business trip to London, Cardiff and Liverpool. Pretty much zero recognition of my silver chrome M, but some close looks in London, especially in Chinatown.

With my f1 Noctilux mounted, it does look like a Digilux 2 though, at least to the untrained eye!
