jip Posted January 17, 2013 Share #1  Posted January 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello guys, I've bought the 90mm Elmarit-M (latest version) to replace my 90mm summicron (first version) I found it too heavy, and I got it for not too much.  Also I bought a Pre-ASPH. 21mm Elmarit-M from 1995, including the hood and leather pouch and box and so on. To use it on my Leica M6 TTL 0.85 and Leica M9-P I also bought a 21-24-28mm finder.  If anyone has some tips and tricks for any of these products! Let me know! Welcome, dear visitor! IWC Doppel Posted January 18, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted January 18, 2013 I sold my 90mm Elmarit-M only through lack of use, but found the lens to be superb, I much preferred to the 75 Summarit I sold. I have seen little mention of the bokeh, which I found to be very nice indeed. Â If I ever wanted a 90mm again, I would buy another in a flash
lct Posted January 18, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted January 18, 2013 Don't worry if your 90/2.8 does not focus accurately, it simply needs to be calibrated for digital. Great lens indeed.
pgk Posted January 18, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted January 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 90 is indeed a great lens. Mine amazes me in terms of its ability to resolve fine detail even when shooting against the light. It performs superbly with just a mere hint of chromatic in the very corners - if examined at extreme magnification. Its size and handling on an M body are excellent and it takes E46 filters which suits my system very well too. I'd highly recommend it, but suspect its qualities are becoming better appreciated as clean copies seem to be climbing in price.
jip Posted January 18, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted January 18, 2013 They will both arrive today! Can't wait! Â Yesterday I shot in a night club with the M9-P and 28mm Elmarit-M with SF58. Never did something like that before, curious about the results! Would've been fun to have had the 21mm with me.
Maarten Posted January 18, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted January 18, 2013 Hi Jip, I own an older copy of your 21mm and made some years ago this picture in Zevenaar City with the 21mm on my M8. You might recognize the street... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/1089865-post12.html The 90mm Elmarit-M is a wonderful lens. I had it coded by Will van Maanen. Not many flashes have a coverage for a 21mm lens which has significant peripheral light drop-off (vignetting) when wide open. So it probably would have given you 28mm coverage regardless. iedei Posted January 18, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted January 18, 2013 jip, Â the 21 Elmarit is a fantastic lens. Been shooting with it for a few weeks now.....it's VERY addictive to use....and is beautifully built. Â My only advice would be that shooting wide is a totally different mindset. There is so much more in the photo, so it takes a bit more trial and error in the beginning. After a while though, you will start to pick up the strategy. It is a LOT of fun to shoot with though. Â i don't use a separate viewfinder....on the M8 i just use the edge of the viewfinder built-in....works GREAT!

Bill W Posted January 18, 2013 Share #15 Â Posted January 18, 2013 jip, I had that version of the 21 many years ago and sold it. I now have the 21 Super Elmar-M. Why I sold it I have no clue but it was superb. I used it mainly for landscapes to render max DOF.

tobey bilek Posted January 18, 2013 Share #17 Â Posted January 18, 2013 I have had my 21 2.8 like yours since they first delivered around 1985. Cost was $650. Â Have not used it much as it is pretty wide, but it takes wonderful pics on the M8 and now M9. I suppose the current asph is better, but these pics are sharp enough. Â If you like this lens, I recommend a 28 2.8 ver 3 Elmarit. They render much the same. Just make sure you get a lens shade as you will not find one.
