Reds Posted November 26, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted November 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Feel a little silly posting this, but I noticed today that the Red Dot to help with aligning your lens with the mount fell off my 35 lux some time over the weekend. Â I managed to find it, in a nook in my bag. Assume I'm ok to stick it back on with a dab of superglue? or is that going to melt the thing !
Advertisement Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Hi Reds, Take a look here My Red Dot Fell off..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bobitybob Posted November 26, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted November 26, 2012 Same happened to one of my lenses, unfortunately I lost it. . Got a new one from Leica for free and glued it on with superglue. Just left it out of the bag for a few days so that anything that gassed of the glue wasn't contained.
Reds Posted November 26, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 26, 2012 When it's not there - you realise how functional it is for putting the lens on quickly! That was one thing I didn't like about Zeiss lenses. The blue dot is so much harder to see in dim light.
Bill Allsopp Posted November 26, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted November 26, 2012 ........... That was one thing I didn't like about Zeiss lenses. The blue dot is so much harder to see in dim light. Yes, a real pain.
pico Posted November 26, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted November 26, 2012 A red dot fell off. Big deal! Â I went skydiving today, pulled the wrong cord and my underwear unraveled! Â ...and still looking for the lost battery cover for the M7.
Reds Posted November 27, 2012 Author Share #6  Posted November 27, 2012 Could have been worse..... you might have pulled your underwear off and the cord unravelled  I found my red dot amongst little silica gel balls that I didn't realise were also in the nooks in my little Thinktank. Moral.. always check your nooks.

TomB_tx Posted November 27, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted November 27, 2012 A red dot fell off. Big deal! I went skydiving today... You might recall in the late 1960s the E.Leitz N.Y. "Leica Photography" magazine had a story about a skydiver who dropped his M3 when the chute opened. He found the M3 on the "soft" ground, cleaned off the mud, and it still worked. The ceramic pressure plate was cracked. (I thought I still had that issue, but can't find it.)
J_Thompson Posted November 27, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted November 27, 2012 Check 'em every morning in the shower! Â Reminds me of a line from Rodney Dangerfield, "It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle came off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom." philipus Posted November 27, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted November 27, 2012 Andrew Nemeth's Leica FAQs lists a suggestion by Andy Piper, who is a member here, re how to make a dot yourself. Â But supergluing the old one back won't hurt the lens of course.
jaapv Posted November 27, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted November 27, 2012 Repair persons recommend contact glue over Superglue.
Reds Posted November 27, 2012 Author Share #12 Â Posted November 27, 2012 How do you get excess superglue mess off a Summilux then? I made a right faff of it. Used Gorilla glue. Seems to have stuck ok though.
jaapv Posted November 28, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted November 28, 2012 Probably exactly the reason it is not recommended.

philipus Posted November 28, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted November 28, 2012 Repair persons recommend contact glue over Superglue. Â Why would that be?
honcho Posted November 28, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted November 28, 2012 Why would that be? Â Severe risk of sticking the lens to your finger.
rramesh Posted November 28, 2012 Share #17 Â Posted November 28, 2012 Won't the local Leica service center do this for free?
jmahto Posted September 3, 2013 Share #18 Â Posted September 3, 2013 I found this thread after I noticed that my aligning red dot also missing from my lens. Â Unlike fortunate ones here I could not find it in my bag. So from where can I get it? Or is there some substitute?
jmahto Posted September 3, 2013 Share #19 Â Posted September 3, 2013 OK.. went over other threads. Will call Leica service... or use it without the dot !! Decision... decision...
zeitz Posted September 3, 2013 Share #20 Â Posted September 3, 2013 I'm missing a red dot too. The "local" service center in the US is a thousand miles away. (There's only one; and I guess we're supposed to be thankful it doesn't get closed.) I had to wait a long time just to buy the lens because, we're told, these lenses are hard to make because the quality is so high.
