Volksvegan Posted July 25, 2013 Share #41 Posted July 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I am new to both this forum and Leica. I have been shooting film as a hobby for over 30 years, but the M1 I recently purchased is my first Leica. I have yet to use the camera as I am trying to get as much information as possible, and getting up the nerve, before I expose film. The camera is somewhat special in that as far as can be determined it has never been used. I acquired the camera from a friend who has a camera store. He purchased it from the original owner who said that he put it on a shelf after opening it and realizing it did not have a rangefinder. The camera is pristine. It is in the original box with all of the correct packaging and documentation. There are no marks on the body. I believe that it, is in fact, a new in the box M1. I checked the serial number and the story gets better, it was built about a month after I was born. I do intend to use the camera. I do not know what the value is unused, but it seems to me that this beautiful machine was built to expose film. I intend to do so soon. I would greatly appreciate any M1 pointers that any of the members of the forum can share with me. Thank you.

happyclickerbug Posted July 28, 2013 Share #42 Posted July 28, 2013 Hello everyone, I just joined this forum a few hours ago with the intention of reading up about Leica cameras and getting advice and insight from actual users and fellow hobbyists. I'm just a hobby photographer who started recently and currently uses a Fuji X100. As embarrassing as it may be to admit, I actually didn't have too much awareness of Leicas until I started using the X100. What made Leica catch my eye was all the online discussions and comparisons pitting the X100 against Leicas, which always ended up with the conclusion that Leicas and Fuji's are totally different and that Leicas are on a whole different level. As an X100 user, I have arrived at the conclusion that the X2 or X Vario would be more my speed ... and price range I of course would really like to own an M or M-E eventually, but I need to find somewhere I can actually use a rangefinder for a while to find out if it is for me. If I go ahead and get an M-E or M, and find that rangefinders and me don't get along, it could very well be a very expensive mistake ... Cheers to everyone ... looking forward to learning a lot here
Zon Posted August 4, 2013 Share #43 Posted August 4, 2013 Hello forum, I have only just become a member after many months of "lurking" ! You will all be pleased to know that you have helped me to decide to change from Nikon to Leica! I have on order a black M and a 50 summircron to (I hope) complement it. albertospa Posted November 24, 2013 Share #44 Posted November 24, 2013 Hello, I'm Alberto and I write from Italy. I used Leica for many years and I could not do without it. I use it both for pleasure and for business. I have a M6 and M9P with a variety of optical, but only up to 50mm. For now I can not find the nesessità to use longer lenses on these machines. I am a member since April 2012 and now I make my presentation. I apologize for this but I did not. thanks
mca Posted December 22, 2013 Share #45 Posted December 22, 2013 Hello I am Luis from Portugal. I have registered in this forum in 2011 and even posted opinions on one topic or another, but forgot to introduce myself properly. Apologies for that. I am 36 and do photography as a hobby since I can remember. I used several film cameras before the advent of digital and have managed to put together a small collection of 10 or 15 cameras. On the Leica front I currently own 3 cameras: an original D-Lux, an M6 and an M9, my primary camera. I do mostly street photography though I have tried several other genres such as some landscape, some studio and some concert photography. All part of my never ending learning process. Thank you for creating and maintaining this forum and I hope I can participate and learn from all of you. Luis
jaybrams Posted January 3, 2014 Share #46 Posted January 3, 2014 Hi. I am Jay from South Florida, USA. I joined the forum recently after lurking for some time. I just bought my first Leica - the X2 which I love. Its a large improvement over my Fuji X100 which I am now selling. I have mostly been a Canon D and SLR shooter since the early 1990s, before which I was an Oly OM1 owner. Being in Florida, I mainly shoot nature and portraits. Love my new X2 and looking forward to many years of Leica ownership and learning a lot from other forum members.
flanoizele Posted January 5, 2014 Share #47 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, As I already mentioned in another thread I am pretty new to photography. For professional reasons I have to spend a lot of time in Paris. So last year, during one of my stays, I decided to buy a nice point and shoot camera to have some fun during my evenings. Finally I bought the Fuji x-e1. It only took me a couple of months to find out that I was completely obsessed by B&W photography. So, in September of 2013 (on my birthday) I finally decided to buy my first Leica camera... the Monochrom... with both, the 35 and 90mm summicron F2 lenses... Ever since, photography took a whole new dimension for me and i can honestly say that, even if it costs me a whole lot of money, this was the best buy of my life Thank you all for the most interesting and educative information on this forum, Kind regards, Frederic Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited January 5, 2014 by flanoizele

RobinAK Posted May 30, 2014 Share #49 Posted May 30, 2014 Hi, I'm Robin (RobinAK) from Vancouver BC, D800 user and making the the change and the list of Leica stuff I need - this forum is very helpful for hearing the details and arguments about each consituent and its utility. My choice is Silver M 240 with Silver f/2 35mm lens and nothing else (although Im dying to buy everything!) - till I get used to RF; manual focus etc. I sympathize with posters who have trouble plucnking down $10-15,000 for benefits that need very careful thought and may well be illusory- but like all those doubters and prevaricators, (of course) I'm gonna go for it.

xristian Posted August 17, 2014 Share #57 Posted August 17, 2014 Hi All: I recently discovered photography as a hobby. I started shooting with a Rolleicord, then recently upgraded to an M3 with a 1930's Elmar 5cm lens. I'm considering upgrading to Summicron, but not sure if that's just GAS. Maybe somebody here can tell me if it's worth the upgrade? I'm also looking for a place to upload photos I've developed and receive constructive criticism. Hopefully, this is the place. Looking forward to learning more about photography!
antigallican Posted September 5, 2014 Share #58 Posted September 5, 2014 My journey to Leica has been a long one. My first camera was a modern style Brownie, bought for me by my Grandfather in about 1961. Then there was a gap until I went to art school in the 70s. I learned b&w processing and fully manual photography on a Zenit (remember those?) and a Sinar. During the years in between I followed a path of getting more automatic and sophisticated cameras until finally ending up with a Nikon D600. That camera is sooo complex and capable it made me think 'what am I doing?' I started out with the zenit and no lightmeter, now I've got a machine so complex I have no hope of making it do what I want unless I switch half of it off... At which point I did a landscape photography course with a man who just used a film camera and I found his pared down, simple approach was exactly what I needed. I can usually judge light by adapting the sunny 16 rule, I know how to focus a camera... why am I lugging around all this STUFF? And so I bought a Leica M6, a Summicron 50, a bag of film and got my Paterson tank out. I found I could even remember the proportions for developing in Rodinal. I haven't looked back. An M6 doesn't even require me to guess the light, while my camera bag is nearly empty. Heaven. My name is John by the way.
