marknorton Posted July 29, 2012 Share #21 Posted July 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My bet is that there will be no M10 this year. If there is someting new it will be called something else. But what? The M is mirrorless, so will it be the SN? (spiegeln nicht) Mirrorless would be "spiegellose" I think. But then, the M is already "spiegellose"...

lct Posted July 29, 2012 Share #23 Posted July 29, 2012 A mirrorless rangefinder? How does it work, with laser?
Ecar Posted July 29, 2012 Share #24 Posted July 29, 2012 I heard Leica's Marketing Department hired a numerologist to determine the "right" price. M10 = 10 grands. But he got overruled by the psychologist who suggested 9,999.
bill Posted July 29, 2012 Share #25 Posted July 29, 2012 Ten grand exactly? No change there then... Regards, Bill
Ecar Posted July 29, 2012 Share #26 Posted July 29, 2012 Well, the Finance guy had his say as well and decided that the price should be expressed in GBP to ensure proper currency hedging...

Ecar Posted July 29, 2012 Share #28 Posted July 29, 2012 Pete, Haven't you heard that, based on advice given by a renowned crystal ball consultant, the Marketing Department also expects film to be discontinued shortly?
Steve Ash Posted July 29, 2012 Share #29 Posted July 29, 2012 I guess it will cost a kidney for most. Steve
SJP Posted July 29, 2012 Share #30 Posted July 29, 2012 Very precise and highly scientific calculation (PM me for the underlying model) shows that it will cost £ 8305.648573. Conversion to other currencies remains more speculative, especially with our Greek, Italian, Spanish and German friends preparing to throw sand into the machine. sdai Posted July 29, 2012 Share #32 Posted July 29, 2012 A mirrorless rangefinder? How does it work, with laser? What would be funny is they might introduce a rangefinderless "rangefinder" ... after all, many folks are simply fond of the style - not its substance. :-)
kdriceman Posted July 29, 2012 Share #33 Posted July 29, 2012 IF they announce the M10 (or whatever they name the next generation digital rangefinder), my guess is it will be around $8,500. I think they need to keep it in the ballpark of the M9 as they will need many, many M9 owners to upgrade. The number of non-rangefinder photographers out there that are willing to pay more than what a Canon EOS 1DX costs for a rangefinder would seem to be limited. Wolfgang Esslinger Posted July 29, 2012 Share #34 Posted July 29, 2012 Many will be disappointed by what will be announced - and when it will be available. I guess whatever it is it will be more expensive than expected and more niche - see latest launches. However, I do hope that it will many M9 owners make dispose of their camera...! LotharZhou Posted July 29, 2012 Share #35 Posted July 29, 2012 I seriously think the price will be outrageous again.
lct Posted July 29, 2012 Share #36 Posted July 29, 2012 I seriously think the price will be outrageous again. Why so? M9 ($7K) and M9-P ($8K) are at the same level as Nikon ($8K) and Canon ($7K) flagship cams price wise. The M10 will be cheaper than the next Canon hopefully. lars_bergquist Posted July 30, 2012 Share #37 Posted July 30, 2012 I would have to give te same answer that J.P. Morgan gave to an acquaintance who asked him how much it would cost to own a steam yacht: "If you have to ask, then you can't afford it." The old man from the Age of Popular Photography. farnz Posted July 30, 2012 Share #38 Posted July 30, 2012 I seriously think the price will be outrageous again. The price is the price. Calling it "outrageous", "astronomical", "ridiculous", or "exorbitant" simply indicates that you would like it to be cheaper. But in the end the price is the price. You will either pay it or you won't. Pete.
