wilfredo Posted February 28, 2007 Author Share #31 Â Posted February 28, 2007 Thus far, no one seems willing to let go of their M8. I've certainly become attached to mine, as someone else wrote: "worts and all." I also find myself carrying this camera around more than any other camera. It truly is a little photo wonder. scjohn Posted February 28, 2007 Share #33 Â Posted February 28, 2007 I AM keeping mine but if I had it to do over again I would still be using my RD-1 and waiting to buy the m8 until the fix is in, and the filters and new firmware is out. Â It is funny to read all the "I no longer use this camera or that camera now that I have the M8" posts. I have experienced the exact opposite. I had not used my Nikon D2x for fun in over a year since the RD-1 came out but when I replaced the RD-1 with the M8 and the green blobs and the "trip to Solms" hit, the Nikon was back. No one who has sent the m8 off for repairs and is waiting for its return (like I am) is getting any joy out of USING the camera because we don't have it to use. And even if I did have my M8 I would be irked that three of my lenses have been in New Jersey for coding for well over a month now. The fact is that if I had planned to "phase into" the M8 and kept the RD-1 around while I did I would have been in FAR better shape. It has been a sad drag so far. dfdann Posted February 28, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted February 28, 2007 No doubt about it, a keeper along with my M7 and Digillux 1. Dan
wilfredo Posted February 28, 2007 Author Share #35 Â Posted February 28, 2007 Stephan, Â Perfectly understandable. I was lucky to buy one of the cameras with the 1.09 firmware that didn't have to go back, and I haven't been concerned about coding lenses, eventually I'll get around to it. I suspect that once all these kinks are resolved for you, you will be enjoying the camera, I dare say above and beyond your current usable gear. Again, your frustration is perfectly understandable. Leica by no means is a perfect company, and I think they have much to learn from this experience, and hopefully will. mwalker649 Posted February 28, 2007 Share #39 Â Posted February 28, 2007 I sold my Cannon 5D and seveal L lenses to fund the M8 and three lenses. I don't regret it a bit. I plan to buy a new Leica lens every year. I'm stunned every time I look at the photographs.
fotografr Posted February 28, 2007 Share #40 Â Posted February 28, 2007 Had mine one day and it stopped working. Sent it to Solms and got a replacement. Had that one for just over one week and then it stopped working. Now it is on its way to Solms for another replacement. Still, I am not asking for a refund. I will persevere until I get one that stays healthy. I've seen what the camera is capable of and that's enough for me. I have also gained a tremendous amount of respect for the small Leica company. The people who work there are going through some tough times with the M8, yet they are still responsive, courteous and helpful. I've not had the same experience with some of the industry giants.
