andybarton Posted February 21, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2012 I use one all the time on my 35 Summicron. It's a great hood and well worth waiting for. Popflash have new ones for $
luigi bertolotti Posted February 21, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2012 Yes, is the best for 35s... in case you haven't seen, 2 for sale at Kevincameras - not indecent prices imho... of course, shipping from USA to be accounted for... www.kevincameras.com see "Leica Misc" - "Leica hoods"
Michael Geschlecht Posted February 21, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 21, 2012 Hello IWC Doppel, If you don't need the hood to open to hold a filter a 12585 is pretty much the same thing. Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted February 21, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2012 Hello IWC Doppel, If you don't need the hood to open to hold a filter a 12585 is pretty much the same thing. Best Regards, Michael +1 .... Actually, the 12585 hood is perfect for the 35mm Summicron - I use it even on my pre-asph Summicron, which is supposed to use the square 12524 clip-on hood. The 12504 accepts Series VII filters - why Leitz went that way when they introduced the lens is beyond me. Both the 12585 and 12504 are fine to use with E39 (39mm) filters. J12 Posted February 22, 2012 Share #10 Posted February 22, 2012 If you buy a brand new one, just a word of caution. I recently bought a brand new 12504 lens hood for my late serial # German 35mm Summilux (non asph.) However, the hood would not lock to the lens barrel securely and easily fell off. I returned the hood, but the shop didn't have any others to offer as a replacement. I went to a Leica store to buy another. There we tried 3 more brand new 12504 lens hoods, and all had the same problem. Not a single one would clip on securely and stay attached to the lens barrel. The staff told me they would order in some more stock from their warehouse and asked me to come back again. We tried 6 more brand new lens hoods, and again all had the same problem. Finally they found one new 12504 lens hood which locked to the lens barrel securely. But it wouldn't unscrew into two pieces to accept series 7 filters. The staff tried to tell me it wasn't supposed to unscrew into 2 pieces as the series 7 filters had been discontinued. I was quite surprised to hear that from staff at one Leica's own boutiques! I challenged that, and they said they would get someone at their service dept to look into it. They called me back again and eventually provided me with a brand new lens hood that stayed attached to my lens and also unscrewed into 2 pieces to accept series 7 filters as it should. Way too much hassle and hardly the quality engineering you'd expect for something priced so high. I've used several older 12504 lens hoods in the past and never had an issue with any of them. (The springs that ensure the clips on the inside of the hood stay clipped onto the groove on the lens barrel seemed a lot stronger on those.) If you buy a brand new one, I'd check to make sure all is OK before you leave the shop. Hope this saves you or anyone else the trouble I went through! IWC Doppel Posted February 22, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted February 22, 2012 I have taken a punt for a copy one from e-bay, I hope it's an okay decision !
philipus Posted February 23, 2012 Share #12 Posted February 23, 2012 You're in the UK, right? Schouten have two for 200Euro each. =45&tx_commerce_pi1[showUid]=0&tx_commerce_pi1[pointer]=2"]Meister Hamburg also has two for 149 and 189 (latter black paint apparently). Buying from the US risks incurring import duties and taxes.
IWC Doppel Posted February 23, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted February 23, 2012 Yes I'm in the UK. I did see the 200 Euro hoods and the 12585 hoods, they are option 2 if the copy is no good Tks
lct Posted February 23, 2012 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2012 ...I recently bought a brand new 12504 lens hood... You mean a (Chinese?) third party one i guess as Leica does not make 12504 any more if i'm not wrong.

No I'm 100% sure I didn't buy a Chinese copy. I bought it from one of Leica's own shops! Brand new Leica 12504 lens hoods should be available from official Leica retailers and at Leica stores. The new ones have "Leica Camera Germany" engraved on them. They're sold as a spare part with no box in a clear bag. See pic. The older 12504 hoods I've used in the past either had "Leitz Wetzlar Germany" or "Leica Camera GMBH Germany" engraved on them. Welcome, dear visitor! J12 Posted February 23, 2012 Share #17 Posted February 23, 2012 Ah yes interesting indeed thanks for sharing. You're welcome. The one I have now is fine, it just took a while to find a good one. Maybe a bad batch or a change in manufacturing tolerances? The shop also had a hammertone 12504 hood which worked perfectly, but was part of a set and obviously the wrong color match for a black lens. Better to try before you buy if possible.
