I hope jdlaing still monitors this site and hasn't given up on us.

Michael, I know you frown on looking things up but when it goes on this long someone has to do it.

It's one of jdlaing's fine photos, so it's probably in Texas and it's probably a courthouse.  Anyone with any interest in Texas architecture will find out that their architectural records of historic buildings are some of the best in the country.  I can't imagine finding this building any other way, unless you lived across the street of continued to guess forever.

This beautiful Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse, that would probably be more at home in Boston than in Llano County Texas, was designed by Lamour and Watson in 1892.  Evident in this detail photo it has been restored.  Texas also has a exemplary record and has been an innovator of USA historic restoration methods.

Hello Wally,

The only "looking up" that I do is looking at occasional atlases or maps. Other than that I try to figure out where a place is by its architecture, the land & the plants around it. How people are dressed & other things like that. So, perhaps Tyler?

Best Regards,

Michael

Let's see if anyone knows the location, name and date of the building on the far side of the square.

1453?

Mid 15th Cent. would be good but you are probably precise.

I thought masking it behind the loggia would keep you from being able to find it on whatever photo copy app you use, foiled again.

Before you take your turn, please share the rest of the information about this very interesting place for the others.

I didn’t use an app. Sometimes my memory works. I’ll give the others a chance.

I think that I have been there but my memory is not as good as jdlaings, so let‘s start with Italy, and if yes, the North.

Ok, if jdlaing won't divulge his findings, other than the correct date I guess we can continue.

The north yes, but Italy no.

Hello Wally,

I was writing about the place in the photo being closer to Hungary than it is to Italy.

The only thing that I can think of going on in Europe in 1453 is some complexity or other going on near the Black Sea.

Altho the lion looks Scottish.

Best Regards,

Michael

This is Praetorian palace in Koper (Capodistria) - Slovenia (by the way, close to Italian border, some 1.5 hour drive from Venice), built in 13th century, renovated in 15th century. And yes, I'm from Slovenia! 😊

That's correct of course. Yours is a beautiful country, I very much enjoyed my trip there and hope to return to see more.

Your turn.

Regards, Wally.
