Michael Hiles Posted June 22, 2017 Share #2202 Posted June 22, 2017 Hello Michael, I would guess a 35mm, F2.8 with a serial # of, about, 1812345. F stop used for this nice photo: 2.8 Enjoy your trip. Best Regards, Michael Hi Michael, Quite close lens guess - in fact a 35mm Summaron 3.5, #1179287 (stolen last Oct and much missed). Probably about f8 to get reasonable overall sharpness. Michael Hiles Posted June 27, 2017 Share #2203 Posted June 27, 2017 OK. Still looking for a guess - How 'bout Las Vegas? No, wrong continent. And the name of the building ends with a vowel. (I've probably given away too much).
stuny Posted June 28, 2017 Share #2204 Posted June 28, 2017 Italy?
Michael Hiles Posted June 28, 2017 Share #2205 Posted June 28, 2017 Italy? Absolutely Italy. Stuart, I'd bet a Euro that you have been in this building at some point. And the architect's name also ends in a vowel.
adan Posted June 29, 2017 Share #2206 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) Yeah, but Michael, in Italian/Italy, everything ends in a vowel. Not much help there.... La penna di mia zia è verde/rossa/gialla/nera. Edited June 29, 2017 by adan
stuny Posted June 29, 2017 Share #2207 Posted June 29, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Michael - I'm nearly certain I've seen it but I cannot place it. I suspect Rome or Florence.
Michael Hiles Posted June 29, 2017 Share #2208 Posted June 29, 2017 Yeah, but Michael, in Italian/Italy, everything ends in a vowel. Not much help there.... La penna di mia zia è verde/rossa/gialla/nera. Bloody 'ell. I never thought of that. Michael - I'm nearly certain I've seen it but I cannot place it. I suspect Rome or Florence. Rome it is. Now a museum, associated with a great family.
stuny Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2209 Posted June 30, 2017 Perhaps Diocletian's Palace?
Michael Geschlecht Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2210 Posted June 30, 2017 Hello Stuart, Diocletian does not end with an "O". Best Regards, Michael
Michael Hiles Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2211 Posted June 30, 2017 Not Diocletian's Palace. New by that standard, but old by mine (so far...).
Michael Geschlecht Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2212 Posted June 30, 2017 Hello Michael, Could this building have been built within the last 300 years, more or less?Best Regards, Michael
AZach Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2213 Posted June 30, 2017 Hello, could not verify the staircase from my own photos but your clues could lead to Palazzo Doria-Pamphili ( although sometimes spelled -Pamphilj ), a great museum but still also a residence, several architects, the first was called Carlo Maderno. Best regards, Arto
Michael Hiles Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2214 Posted June 30, 2017 Hello Michael, Could this building have been built within the last 300 years, more or less? Best Regards, Michael Hello, could not verify the staircase from my own photos but your clues could lead to Palazzo Doria-Pamphili ( although sometimes spelled -Pamphilj ), a great museum but still also a residence, several architects, the first was called Carlo Maderno. Best regards, Arto Hi Michael and Arto, This building was built around 1630 or so – it seems to have taken some years – this is not a pre-fab unit from IKEA. The Palazzo Doria-Pamphilj is a great guess – it is one of my favourite places in Rome. Still the residence of the original family, and the fabulous art collection is still their private property. The audio guides available for a small fee are both very informative – and the narrator is the current Prince Jonathan Doria-Pamphilj. However, this is not the building in question. Close but no cigar. The family, whose name is associated, no longer resides in their palazzo – but they still exist, much the way the Medici descendants still are around. No longer movers and shakers. “My” building contains an important public art collection.
AZach Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2215 Posted June 30, 2017 Hello Michael, the next guess would then be Villa Borghese original from 1630's housing the family art collections that are now publicly owned. More gallery buildings have been added later for the collections. Best regards, Arto
Michael Hiles Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2216 Posted June 30, 2017 I think I am becoming the "abominable no-man" - not the Villa Borghese, but it does fit the clues. Amongst the glories of the Villa Borghese are the Bernini sculptures - and Bernini is also a good association in this case.
wlaidlaw Posted June 30, 2017 Share #2217 Posted June 30, 2017 Villa d'Este?
Michael Hiles Posted July 1, 2017 Share #2218 Posted July 1, 2017 Hi Wilson, Not the wonderful Villa d"Este (next time). "My" place is in the middle of the city.
AZach Posted July 3, 2017 Share #2219 Posted July 3, 2017 "My" 3rd candidate is Palazzo Barberini, the architect also Moderno and later completed by Bernini. It houses the collections of the National Gallery of Ancient Art. Regards, Arto
Michael Hiles Posted July 3, 2017 Share #2220 Posted July 3, 2017 Great stuff - Palazzo Barberini it is. Congratulations. This picture is of the square Bernini staircase that is on the left side of the building. An interesting aspect of the building is that there is also a magnificent helical staircase on the right side of the building designed by Boromini. Therefore Arto - you're up.
