Advertisement Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Hi stuny, Take a look here "Do you know this building?" Game Thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted July 10, 2014 Share #102 Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) Borghesi? No, but good guess. Think "Important and Powerful Family". This building has been used as a model for other well known buildings around the world. Titian painted famous portraits of a prominent member of this family. stuny Posted July 10, 2014 Share #103 Posted July 10, 2014 That suggests the Villa Medici, though I don't recall ever being there.
Michael Hiles Posted July 10, 2014 Share #104 Posted July 10, 2014 That suggests the Villa Medici, though I don't recall ever being there. Excellent guess, but... No. Hercules features in the interior decoration and statuary. Like the Medici, this family has serious Church connections (didn't they all...) a.j.z Posted July 10, 2014 Share #105 Posted July 10, 2014 A combination of all your hints tells me that it is the Palazzo Farnese.
Michael Hiles Posted July 10, 2014 Share #106 Posted July 10, 2014 A combination of all your hints tells me that it is the Palazzo Farnese. Excellent, but... Yes! Palazzo Farnese. Pope Paul III was a Farnese, and there are two fabulous portraits of him by Titian, now housed in the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples. Take a look at Portrait of Pope Paul III (Titian) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The view in my picture (in the interior courtyard) is not often seen, because the only way in is by pre-booked guided tour (for security reasons) or the need to do some business with the French Embassy (which is housed in the Palazzo). Additionally, after I made this picture, we were told that photography is not permitted (oops). Interestingly (to me at least) the interior courtyard was designed mainly by Michelangelo. So Andreas - a forward pass to you.

spylaw4 Posted July 15, 2014 Share #120 Posted July 15, 2014 Lovely scenery and fine images Andreas! I enjoy these threads, and sometimes good luck just happens. I'll have to dig around overnight to get something suitable (teasing but not too obscure) !
