Advertisement Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Hi spylaw4, Take a look here "Do you know this building?" Game Thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted July 16, 2014 Share #122 Posted July 16, 2014 Hmmm. Recognizing the flag (which I do not) would no doubt be helpful, but let's start with, Europe?
spylaw4 Posted July 16, 2014 Share #123 Posted July 16, 2014 Nope! Try another continent!
Michael Geschlecht Posted July 16, 2014 Share #124 Posted July 16, 2014 Hello Brian, Perhaps somewhere in or near the Caucasus Mountains? Best Regards, Michael
Michael Hiles Posted July 17, 2014 Share #125 Posted July 17, 2014 I think this is North America and the flag is likely a municipal flag.
spylaw4 Posted July 17, 2014 Share #126 Posted July 17, 2014 Well you're getting closer with N. America, Michael (H). BTW I think the flag was corporate, rather than national. But it could have been municipal come to think of it. An intersting insertion isn't it?
stuny Posted July 17, 2014 Share #127 Posted July 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the Americas?
spylaw4 Posted July 17, 2014 Share #128 Posted July 17, 2014 As I said in post #126 - not N. America, so broadly speaking yes! but that covers a lot of countries! Think of a well known place in quite a well known country.
stuny Posted July 17, 2014 Share #129 Posted July 17, 2014 Well, the Cayman's are a well known place to put money off=shore, hiding it from authorities. Perhaps one such bank in the Caymans?
spylaw4 Posted July 18, 2014 Share #130 Posted July 18, 2014 It's a lot further south than the Cayman Islands! But although I have nothing definite it does look like a bank now you mention it!
stuny Posted July 18, 2014 Share #131 Posted July 18, 2014 So, most likely South America, eliminating nearly 200 countries as we narrow it down.
spylaw4 Posted July 18, 2014 Share #132 Posted July 18, 2014 Yes, S.America. So here's another clue - think about this year's Serpentine Pavilion (I did post some pics).
Michael Hiles Posted July 18, 2014 Share #133 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Your clue suggests Chile... In fact some research also suggests the Naval Museum in Valparaiso. Edited July 18, 2014 by Michael Hiles
spylaw4 Posted July 18, 2014 Share #134 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) I'm perfectly happy to agree with you Michael. Actually we did not visit this building. The interesting insertion was what caught my eye. Perhaps it has become the Naval Museum since our visit. Anyway - well done - over to you! BTW a quick search implies that it's not the Chilean Navy flag. Edited July 18, 2014 by spylaw4
Michael Hiles Posted July 18, 2014 Share #135 Posted July 18, 2014 I have never been to Chile - Google Images stated that this is a Naval Museum. I would like to go sometime (and maybe see if it really is a naval museum)... This place does not allow photographs - so I learned after pressing the button. To narrow things considerably, this is not my local book store, if fact it is not in Montreal. Welcome, dear visitor! spylaw4 Posted July 19, 2014 Share #136 Posted July 19, 2014 Looks rather like the Library in the British Museum?
Michael Hiles Posted July 19, 2014 Share #137 Posted July 19, 2014 (edited) Well, that was fast. Indeed, it is the old reading room in the British Museum. This impressive room was used by a large number of famous people, including Sun Yat-sen, Karl Marx (he wrote Das Capital here), Oscar Wilde, Friedrich Hayek (no doubt inspired by Marx), Bram Stoker, Mahatma Gandhi, Rudyard Kipling, George Orwell, George Bernard Shaw, Mark Twain, Vladimir Lenin, Virginia Woolf, Arthur Rimbaud, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, H. G. Wells and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Brian - the challenge is now for your files. Edited July 19, 2014 by Michael Hiles
spylaw4 Posted July 19, 2014 Share #138 Posted July 19, 2014 Thaks you Michael. Sometimes the answer just pops up! I will have to look something out - might be tomorrow (GMT) before I post!
spylaw4 Posted July 20, 2014 Share #139 Posted July 20, 2014 OK guys, Have a go at this one. I'll give you one clue - it might say Brasil, but it is not in that country. So where is this distinctive street frontage to be found? Welcome, dear visitor!
