Sorry STuart - credible guess, but...

Philipp has it - Trinity College, Cambridge. It would be good to name the precise building, and the subject of the statue, but I think the direction of the baton is clear.

I don't know the building but I think the statue shows Sir Isaac Newton.

Close enough - it is the Chapel of Trinity. The statue is, in fact, Sir Isaac Barrow. Barrow was the first Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. There is a very similar statue of Newton just a few feet away. Barrow resigned in favour of his brilliant student, Newton. The Lucasian chair is probably the most prestigious chair in the world. Newton's successors included Charles Babbage, Sir George Airy, Stokes, Paul Dirac and Stephen Hawking. For those not steeped in the lore of Physics, this (quite incomplete) list contains some of histories' most famous and brilliant physicists and mathematicians.

The next one will not be all that difficult. Where and what?

Seeing the number of guesses I guess a hint might be helpful.

This is, of course, the same building, but from a slightly different vantage point:

Michael - it has been used for two different functions at different times (as far as I am aware) bot none of the two you mention. In fact, both the former and the current tenants might be a bit startled at the idea.

This is a more revealing view with some powerful clues or "clews", as some authors will have it.

The pictures above show a small bridge which connects two buildings. This is the building on the other side of the bridge, shown from the rear side.

Edit - knowing the country where those buildings are standing would be a good starting point. Also, I know for a fact that many members here have seen those buildings.

Leitz Administration Building, Wetzlar.

This is indeed the case that the building was first built and used for this purpose. Today it serves as the City Hall (Rathaus) for Wetzlar.

Two more easily recognizable views. I have gone to great lengths to take those two photographs in weather conditions which will make them even more recognizable.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing the building you will entertain us with.

Proving that I am a Texan, this is the former Texas School Book Depository, from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK.

I disliked taking visiting family growing up here almost as much as the Southfork Ranch.

:D
