I suppose I could start a separate thread on this, but this one seems to be appropriate. I recently finished off two weeks in Europe with my M8.2 and three lenses. I will repeat something I said before - I'm afraid to buy an M240 because I would then stop using the the M8.2 and I LOVE what the 8.2 produces, especially in bw. (And yes, I have shot the M240) A few observations: the first is that no other camera handles like the Leica M digital. And the Leica lenses are just superb. I did plenty of stitching - mostly hand held and the results are terrific. While the 50 Lux ASPH is my "go to" lens it doesn't begin to match the Zeiss 55 1.4 on my D800. I'm sure this could be due to sheer megapixel advantage.

I saw no other Leica cameras on my trip. Mostly the more inexpensive DSLR's from Nikon and Canon with kit zoom lenses.

If you would like to see my results: Zenfolio | john brewton photography - there are separate folders for Italy and Corsica.

So, yes, I am still loving the M8.2. It is a shooter's camera, it is a photographer's camera, it is pure photography on a basic level only limited by the shooters ability. I am still stunned by the bw output when everything comes together and the color images are impressive several years later when the supposedly new technology has rendered them obsolete.

Please feel free to comment.

John, I feel the same way. I just returned from a trip to England and was astounded by the BW images my M8 produced, not only on the monitor, but the prints. It's a great camera. I recently acquired a Monochrom for a price that could not be ignored and I am curious to see how it compares to the M8. Certainly it will be better, but will it be significantly better? That is my question for myself. Frankly I cannot imagine a sharper image than those that the M8 produced. I wish I could present more than a 200 kb jpg of this image from the M8 because it truly amazed me when I saw the print. I can read the menu on the print as well as words on the other signs. The resolution is incredible, and it was hand held at dusk. 1/3000 at f2 75mm Apo-Summicron ASPH. The only deficiency I see is the size of the files - not a lot of room to manipulate them.

Well... is really the D800 + Zeiss 55 comparable to a M8 + 50 Lux ?

It is just two different worlds, a big/heavy one and a small/discret one.

I'll go anywhere in the world this the small one, point

the d800 is a perfect picture machine, the resolution is terrific, but for my private use and my free b+w works i love the m8 style

I love my M8 ... its my first Leica.. till now I was using a 35mm lens as my prime. However during my last trip to Beijing I found a pristine Konica M-Hexanon 50mm. while the 35 behaves like a 50 on my M8, I do like to have the 50mm on the camera as it behaves slightly like a tele. Sometimes especially if I don't want to get too close to my subjects...

Thanks Jip for getting me here!:)

I thought it was all too easy. Just take my R lenses and buy myself one of those Sony A7 FF cameras and forget about my love for M. It's just something I cannot afford...

But when I look at these images they are just as gorgeous! 8 years old camera? Maybe, but they just show! Makes my choise a whole lot more difficult since I now seriously think about M8.2...

The other option is the Sony A7s, which performs much better with M lenses than the A7 or A7r.

However, it is not a rangefinder and if that is the experience you want, the M8 does an excellent job at image quality, but the ISO range is limited compared to other cameras.
