adan Posted May 29, 2011 Share #161 Posted May 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks - interesting to see the definitive "-P" engraved on the hot shoe. Might want to add this link to the ongoing "M9-P??" thread, too. (Someone showed wider pix of Seal carrying the camera with Heidi and the kids.) Advertisement Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 Hi adan, Take a look here Leica M9-P ????. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted May 29, 2011 Share #162 Posted May 29, 2011 Perhaps we are being favoured in the UK, but for some months dealers have been advertising the M9 as being available from stock. Hmm - did you drill down to the actual check-out point? I got: Red Dot cameras "Product doesn't exist in our stock in the desired quantity (1)" Richard Kaplan "Out of Stock" R.G. Lewis "while supplies last" Robert White does seem to have at least one. All of the above advertised "M9 IN STOCK" on their home page - just not if you actually try to buy one.... pop Posted May 29, 2011 Share #163 Posted May 29, 2011 Dealers in Switzerland have M9's in their shop windows, presumably for sale.

Paul Verrips Posted May 29, 2011 Share #165 Posted May 29, 2011 Have a look at this: GOING RETRO! 35 Cron PRE-ASPH (for a change). on Twitpic.Looks like a chrome M9 with engraved lettering on top, without the red dot, and with "-P" just visible on the hot shoe. It seems that Seal is Leica's official leak now (no pun intended...), this picture certainly doesn't look like a coincidence. Marc If you can read the serialnumber on the hotshoe you can try to figure out what kind of M it is.
Lightwrangler Posted May 29, 2011 Share #166 Posted May 29, 2011 The number is unreadable. Of course. Knowing the "P" in the Leica MP stood for "perfection" i would guess, the "P" in M9-P would stand for the same thing. So maybe we can really hope for not only a cosmetically, but also technically enhanced version of the 9. They did the same with the MP back in time, compared to the M7, didn't they? Lightwrangler Posted May 29, 2011 Share #168 Posted May 29, 2011 The MP is not an improved version of the M7. D'accord. Read: "M6" It was mechanically better then the M7 - and there is always someone who disagrees Mike
roydonian Posted May 29, 2011 Share #169 Posted May 29, 2011 I didn’t bother ‘drilling down’ on anyone’s website – I knew I’d seen the M9 in stock on the shelf of at least one of the dealers when I was in London about a month or so ago. The M9-P is coming some two years after the launch of the M9, so is following the same sort of timescale as the M8.2 followed the M8. Unless it offers significant internal changes such as faster processing and/or better high-ISO performance, only traditionalists like myself or collectors are likely to want to dig deeper into their pockets and opt for the new version. So I’d expect the M9 to remain the primary production model, with the new top and bottom plate being fitted to some batches as required by demand for the traditional finish. After a few months of ‘feeding frenzy’, I’d expect the M9-P to be as readily available as the current version. Assuming it’s not a Photoshop fake, this latest ‘leak’ must be a deliberate marketing ploy, like those in the runup to the M9 launch. If Leica wants to tell us that a new model is coming, why don’t they stop playing these silly games and just publish a press release giving brief details of the camera ahead of the official launch and the release of full details? Actually, there is not that much that they need to tell us. The new ‘leak’ strongly suggests that the first was also deliberate. Which I’d suspected that it was – when I’m travelling, my M8.2 is safely stowed in my camera bag where it is out of my way and safe from accidental damage, not hanging around my neck with the risk of damage. So if that first event was a publicity ‘leak’ and not the accidental disclosure of a pre-series camera, this increases the likelihood that the new model is just a cosmetic change – an M-9P in the long-demanded chrome and vulcanite finish, and with a top plate engraving similar to that available under the MP a la carte programme, but with the serial number on the accessory shoe rather than engraved at the top right of the top plate. The main unanswered questions must now be the material from which the rear screen cover is made and the price. Best regards. Doug

The development process of the current M9 camera was very short in time. Leica has been doing something the last two years...

earleygallery Posted May 29, 2011 Share #172 Posted May 29, 2011 What is interesting is that Leica have chosen to go retro with the 'new' M9, no dot, classic script, chrome finish. Why didn't they choose to incorporate some of the design cues from the 'breakthrough' M9 Tit, larger red dot and LED frame lines? Hmmmmm...
rosuna Posted May 29, 2011 Share #173 Posted May 29, 2011 The M9 Ti is a "design exercise". The M9-P will be a "style exercise". One looks to the future, the other looks to the past.
brill64 Posted May 29, 2011 Share #174 Posted May 29, 2011 How'd you get a glossy black M9? Mine is dull black. use car polish..albeit gingerly.

pico Posted May 29, 2011 Share #177 Posted May 29, 2011 Personally, I would like the LED illuminated frame lines especially if 1) I could choose to make them white or red - Red lines make a lot of sense in a dark environment - and 2) if they would show just the outlines for the lens mounted at the moment. I am not an engineer, just a hack, and I've no idea how focus confirmation could be made. Clue me in, please. What's possibly better than how it works now (except for the occasional flare). Regarding a handle or something like the thumbs-up - please, Leica, don't do it. There are so many idiosyncratic aftermarket options and I'd rather choose my own. And I have. I absolutely admire the current M9 menu system. It is elegant, the ideal of simplicity. Whomever designed that should be named and rewarded. But maybe we will just get a boutique option for the M9. On that I'd have to pass. But WTF? There's lots of folks out there with more dollars than sense, which is good for Leica, and in return good for the rest of us. IkarusJohn Posted May 29, 2011 Share #180 Posted May 29, 2011 "p" for positively pricier. If there's a more more expensive model, I won't feel quite so bad about how much my standard M9 cost Cheers John
