This beauty came into my possession last summer. 1930 Leica I ( model a) to Leica I (Standardised model c) conversion with pre-ser. 11 o'clock Elmar. I've put some film through her and the results - especially (and perhaps unexpectedly) with a FSU 35mm f2.8 Jupiter 12 - have been more than satisfactory; a few of which have been posted elsewhere in the forum.

This is my first ever Leica, my one and only LTM, a Christmas gift to myself at the end of 2019. I just had to have one of these, especially in chrome, with as many dials and knobs and levers as possible. It’s a Type-F, came with matching Elmar 50, both the lens and camera are 1935 and in good working condition from a store in the Netherlands. It’s had some Ilford through it, mostly HP5+. It would get used a lot more if I had dioptres (even non-Leica stuck on with blue-tack is fine with me) or contact lenses (which I plan to try for the first time after the Pandemic).

I asked the store if they had any idea about the history of this pair, but no information about previous owners has survived. Perhaps a good opportunity to invent an illustrious and fascinating story for it, like the movie ‘the yellow Rolls Royce”...

My “beater” Leica, a battle worn III here enjoying a 90 Elmar, Zeiss filter, Leitz strap and VIDOM.  Just an “always ready” Camera  I grab since I know it in and out and what it can do.

I showed some of my LTM collection in groups of 3 in my LHSA Zoom Talk on Choosing and Using Old Leicas last year. The first 3 sets of 3 are below.

The first set shows from left to right, an early I Model A No 1661 from 1926, a I Model A with Feet Scale Close Focus and matching FODIS/FODUA rangefinder ( and yellow/green filter on the Elmar) and a I Model C with an 11 O'Clock 50mm Elmar and a FOKOS/HFOOK rangefinder.

The next set shows from left to right a II Model D with a 5cm Hektor, a II Model D with a 50mm Elmar and a III Model F with a 5cm Summar, all black and nickel models.

The third set shows 3 chrome models, from left to right a 'bright chrome' ( difficult to see the difference here, but 'in the flesh' the difference is startling) III Model F from 1933 with a 5cm Summar, a IIIb with Elmar in a NOOKY close up attachment and a IIIa with a 5cm Summar. Note that the IIIa has a higher serial number than the IIIb.

I will post more sets of 3 tomorrow.

That is more or less what I have to show for now. I have lot more LTM cameras, lenses and accessories (including cases, flashes and close up gear) in my collection and I might do another series later.

I have a IIIf from 1952, which my uncle bought for my father while my uncle was in Occupied Germany after the war. I have a collapsible Summitar and a 135 Hektor, and 3 Nikkor lenses which my father bought in Occupied Japan when he was stationed there during the Korean war (35, 85 and 135). I took my first photograph ever with that Leica when I was 7 or 8.

Love the suit and the case with the 'bra strap' just like my early ESMIT case. I've forgotten what lens you used. I acquired a 42mm Mikro-Summar last week and all I need now is the rest of the camera.

I was wondering about the case and whether it was 'Made to Measure' (much like the suit, no doubt!). Is the ESMIT case the correct one for the model 1 cameras?

My 1a to 1c conversion needs a case (no strap lugs) and I've just bought an (incorrectly advertised) "Leica" case which, in fact, is a fudged-over FED 1 case but, oddly enough, is a better case for my purpose as there is no cutaway for a slow-speed dial and the shape of the leather fits the outline of the lens-mount more closely.

I now have three of these 'non-cut' FSU cases and my intention is that one will have its nose sacrificed in order to let me carry the camera with a longer-than-Elmar lens mounted.

The Suit is Charvet 28 Plas Vendome Paris France.  The House of Charvet goes back to 1838 when they became the first maker of “shirts” as we know them today.  Presently they make shirts, ties etc to the absolute highest standards.  On the top floor of their Paris store is their Suiting department.  Unlike most Bespoke tailors, Charvet does not have a particular ‘house style,’. They have the skill to make anything the patron desires, from any cloth made.  This particular suit is a Double Breasted 6 over 2 made from Wainroyal Pure Cashmere woven in Huddersfield UK.   It it Bespoke for Sir David Tatham, British Diplomat, author and Governor of the Falkland Islands.  Sir David and I are both 42 R.    What is truly amazing is that nearly everything on this suit is hand sewn with needle and thread.••••• Breathtakingly Warm, Soft, Comfortable and Lightweight, .....for $9,000 that’s what get.••••• The case, from a Leica Null Series, the Camera, UR Leica Replica #80 modified by Mr. Kim in Seoul.   The lens is exactly what Barnack used, the 42mm Mikro Summar.   The VIDOM sets to 42 mm and answers well as a finder.  Yes, it works 🙂
