Wilson - I had heard about some interesting ltm differences, especially with the Russian lenses during certain production runs, which were shimmed to a Zeiss standard rather than a Leca standard. I also read that originally the Leotax bodies were mated to and sold with Topcor (Tokyo Kogaku) lenses, and in later production also Fujinon lenses. So far, it seems from what I've gleaned in various fora, the Canon Serenars don't present an issue with the Leotax....I'll just have to wait and see. Still, down the road I'd love to have a collapsible 50 to use on it...but the really good ones, regardless of manufacturer, are pretty expensive for an old pensioner like me.

I really enjoy the way it handles.

Just wanted to show what my LTM Collapsible 1955 5cm Summicron on 1957 IIIg can achieve. :) Doorway of the Anglo-Saxon church at Alton Barnes in Wiltshire.

Gee, I'm driving a 2004 O whose shutter dial sits on a little visible pin and must have the lens covered before each advance. Am I allowed in?

Dear Bruce,

You have my vote. The O may not have an "LTM" or even "LSG" but to my mind it is very much in the spirit of this thread.

Welcome,

Hektor

Is it my imagination or are IIIG prices down?

I have an itch and casually looking around ;) really nice condition examples are well down on few years ago. Other Barnacks seem pretty stable. It was unusual to find a G much below £1,000 but I'm seeing nice ones at half that now. (UK Prices)

The question is, the 90mm "frame" worth it? Bear in mind I habitually use an external finder on my IIIc/f but then its not a G finder :D

Very happy with the results I'm getting having only had the Barnack about 3 months now, we are nearly inseparable.

This with the Canon LTM f2 35mm, D-23 PanF +. The model kindly posed for me. Looe Cornwall UK

IIIc+Summaron 3.5 cm

Interesting street shot, but may I suggest tighter cropping.

thanks, yes you may suggest tighter cropping. And I can see your point. On the print there is such wonderful shadows and highlights I was reluctant to lose them...a flatbed scanner doesnt do it justice....thanks for your comments.

Still love and use my 1954 IIIf regularly - bought it in 1963 at the age of 13 for $60, with an Elmar 35 3.5. Today I use it with the Elmar, but have added a Summar 50, a Canon 35 f/2, a Canon 50 f/1.4, a Jupiter 3 & 8, and CV 50 2.5 & 75. A lot of lenses, but I use them on my other cameras, as well.

These are really great street cameras -- people think they're funky and don't really pay attention to them. Especially with either of my little 35s. I find the single biggest thing that attracts attention on the street is a large front element.

The iiig seems to be going everywhere with me. This time I have the summaron 3.5cm 3.5 attached. Such a nice little lens for black and white.

"Such a nice little lens for black and white".

Rick, Leica lenses have been colour corrected since the late 1920s; and the older lenses produce an attractive effect with colour film. Do try it. My favourite is Portra 400, rated at 250 ISO.

This photo was taken with a IIIa and uncoated 5cm Elmar.

Sunny day at the beach, when the fog rolled in from Antarctica. Everyone packed up and left. I looked back and saw these forgotten beach chairs.

With the IIIa and collapsible lens in my pocket one is able to have a camera on hand all the time.

Justin, that's a very nice and atmospheric photograph. One can almost feel the fog on the skin. I agree very much that older lenses work extremely well with colour film. It could be that the combination of a slightly less sharp rendering of the lenses mixes well with today's sharp and contrasty films. I am almost always positively surprised when I see the results of colour film shot through my II(D) and screw mount lenses.

Cheers

Philip

I think all film camera prices are on a pretty steady downward slope other than extreme rarities (the sort of thing that Tamarkin and Westlicht sell). I recently bought a near mint Rollei Baby with various accessories, still in its F&H presentation box for around £250. The problem then was getting recently dated 127 film. No B&W available and I got the last three rolls of Rollei Crossbird that Maco had. 2 to 3 years ago, I would have had to pay well in excess of £400 for the Baby.
