jc_braconi Posted December 11, 2009 Share #402 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) In for a penny... Mine's (or rather, my wife's is) a user not a shelf sitter. Looks good for a user 1953 ? right ? I think and hope that you both will enter the next Barnack Challenge. Edited December 11, 2009 by jc_braconi

jc_braconi Posted December 11, 2009 Share #404 Posted December 11, 2009 At least one of us will have a go at a Challenge or two Andy, unless you are using low speed, take care to leave the slow speed dial on the red painted 25 for using the regular or high speed shutter setting or you will be in trouble. bcentsale Posted December 15, 2009 Share #406 Posted December 15, 2009 Leica III. Got it two years ago for Christmas, but finally got around to a CLA and a lens (the collapsible that it came with was missing the entire aperture assembly!) and just loaded my first roll of Portra into it. I currently have a Russian Jupiter in it but plan on upgrading to a Voigtlander Nokton eventually.
jc_braconi Posted December 16, 2009 Share #407 Posted December 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) a lens (the collapsible that it came with was missing the entire aperture assembly!) . What kind of lens, please ? elmar, summar, summitar, summicron ?
bcentsale Posted December 16, 2009 Share #408 Posted December 16, 2009 summar , 50mm (or, as the lens states, 5cm) I'd like to stay with a collapsible and a true Leitz lens, but i hear good things about the Voigtlanders. David
jc_braconi Posted December 17, 2009 Share #409 Posted December 17, 2009 summar , 50mm (or, as the lens states, 5cm) I'd like to stay with a collapsible and a true Leitz lens, but i hear good things about the Voigtlanders. David Who have restored the lens ?
bcentsale Posted December 17, 2009 Share #410 Posted December 17, 2009 No restoration. It's sitting in a drawer in my office. The diaphragm fins are missing. I picked up the Jupiter to use for now while I decide what I want to do. I really like the collapsible feature, but newer lenses have improved coating. Alas current finances will not permit both... NeeZee Posted February 18, 2010 Share #411 Posted February 18, 2010 I just registered and this seems like a good one for my first post iiif red dial summicron 50/2 collapsible sbooi finder that's all i need and although i own other cameras i almost exclusively use this setup at the moment (except for my olympus xa on occasions where even the above setup is not compact enough..) luigi bertolotti Posted February 18, 2010 Share #412 Posted February 18, 2010 Here's my tarted-up IIIf RD -- Doesn't so much take your eye, as maybe poke it? All its siblings that live here dress very conservatively; we blame this on a possibly misspent youth. :D - Steve Busch Upstate South Carolina, U.S. WOW x 2 ! aauckland Posted February 19, 2010 Share #413 Posted February 19, 2010 Hello Andy, Lovely composition of your wifes IIIf. Does the Nr 6 6 _ _ 6 6 serial number, mean that the middle/missing two digits have been filled?
chris_livsey Posted February 19, 2010 Share #414 Posted February 19, 2010 Does the Nr 6 6 _ _ 6 6 serial number, mean that the middle/missing two digits have been filled? May I answer quickly ? It is common practice to "photoshop out" some of the serial when posting camera portraits to prevent the unscrupulous using the picture on an auction site to fraudulently sell a camera they do not own or to use the numbers on a fake body. Andy has chosen to obliterate selectively for, good, effect
aauckland Posted February 19, 2010 Share #415 Posted February 19, 2010 Thank you Chris, Now I understand, (the reason for the missing digits.) Although I do find the argument a bit bizarre, since it wouldn't nullify the, (inappropriatte), usage of your image, (if one is concerned about such happenings, it would seem more appropriate to apply a copyright or watermark, (similar to JC.)) viooh Posted March 25, 2010 Share #417 Posted March 25, 2010 Count me in. I regularily use LTM gear and sometimes prefer it over my M gear for the sheer pleasure of using these marvels. I own 2x IIIg, 1X IIIf, 1 X IIIa sync. and a couple of old and new LTM lenses, including the late 90's Summicrons 2/50 and 2/35 asph. and an early 2/90 (with the M ring removed). For me, it's colour photography with digital cameras exclusively and BW work with whatever takes film and is old enough for me. Peter
