The blue and silver look great together.

Thanks! I bought it from cameraleather.com.  I had mixed results with them - this one fit great, the one I bought for my Leica 1f had terrible fit.

Fyi I only replaced the original vulcanite because it literally started to crumble off in my hands!

Love the look of the rigid summicron on the M3.  I would love to get this lens one day but I suppose prices are off the charts now.

Only if you are looking for a super mint one. A few cleaning marks significantly reduce the cost and may not impact the image.

We're the same age

Ditto...I mean the M3 and me, not you and I 🙂

Have been intending to post this for a while.

I have an M7 (still one of my favourite cameras of all time) and a CL, I'd spent some years deciding whether to get an M3 the same age as me. I don't like black paint M cameras.  So, for my 60th in May this year I got an M3, 2.0/50 rigid Summicron with IROOA and 2.8/90 Elmar - all in excellent condition (except for a small dent on the corner of the top plate under the frame counter window), silver, and all made 1962.

I looked for an original 5.6/28 Summaron and put out some feelers with dealers from whom I'd bought previously. They are very rare, outrageously expensive (even before paying extra for an original hood to satisfy my OCD)  and I was very concerned I'd end up with one where any hazed optics were unfixable. So I bought an original Leica 28 viewfinder in excellent condition and a silver TTArtisan 5.6/28.

So I now have a complete M3, 28,50 and 90 kit (well ,maybe an original Summaron one day, maybe 🙄).  The camera and that glorious viewfinder are a delight to use.

Dear Mark, that looks like a 1:2.8/Tele-Elmarit.

I have one.  What surprised me was the variable quality of the lens.  I bought six and kept the best of them, now one of my favourites.

Enjoy

I haven’t used my 1.0/50 v3 yet on the M3 as I have been obsessed with the 2.0/5cm rigid Summicron. Will have to try it soon soon.

Mark, the sweet spot of the Summicron 1:2 / 50 is f/4-f/5.6.  I have two, the standard 1956 lens and the "dopple-schnecke".  The same optical design considered the highest resolution 35mm lens of the twentieth century.  Contrast is not as high as more modern lenses, but with the advantages of modern technology (digital scanning and Photoshop) can be improved.
