sandro Posted September 19, 2012 Share #204 Posted September 19, 2012 Are they both earlies? One is from 1954, double stroke, no frame-selector, glass filmplate, early shutter speeds. The other one is from 1961. Lex

Mike Geng Posted September 21, 2012 Share #206 Posted September 21, 2012 Thought I'd post up mine. Just got an M6 as well, plan to shoot a bunch of black/white with both of them and if all goes well, also get an MM once funds allow. Shown with my M9-P in 2nd pic.

jensthoes Posted September 28, 2012 Share #209 Posted September 28, 2012 This is my first post here. My best set is M3 + Summicron 50mm F2 DR. I really love this camera. :-) Very similar to mine! My most uses camera - in the last month without exposure meter (the "pure" camera is perfect). Best, Jens Welcome, dear visitor! jdsheepdog Posted September 29, 2012 Share #210 Posted September 29, 2012 I have posted this history previously, but it is worth a repeat. My M3 came to me in the early '80's, with a DR Summicron. It has been with me since, while lenses came in dribs and drabs, all second hand. In a brief period of prosperity, I bought an M8, new, along with a 28mm Elmarit. In a moment of EBay madness, which turned out to be not mad at all, I bought a IIIF. I found that I was using th M8 as a light meter and composition checker, so I sold it, and bought an MP. Now I have Velvia in the M3, B&W in the MP, which with an on board meter deals well with filters, andC41 in the IIF. I recently bought new clothes from Camera Leather for the two oldies, and they are very pleased with themselves. My only issue is that I cannot really get any processing done here in the PHP, so I have fridge full of undeveloped film. Which is my favourite? You guessed it. The M3, what a beautiful piece of design, beautifully built, and beautiful to use.

The M3, what a beautiful piece of design, beautifully built, and beautiful to use. I had quite a similar story. The IIIf and the M3 are two different shades of pleasure not mutually excluding and the M8 provides a footplant in modern times. Handling the M3 rewards with an unmistakable feeling of craftmanship of the highest order. Everything is smooth, precise and silent. The IIIf gives a similar feeling but to a minor extent, however compensating it with better compactness. The M8 is bulkier, clunkier and way more noisy but allows to handle Leica imagery for the web. Hard to tell which is my favourite. In my case it's just a matter of moods... Cheers, Bruno

Timmyjoe Posted October 10, 2012 Share #217 Posted October 10, 2012 Had heard so much about the M3 but never owned one, until this weekend. Now I know what everyone was talking about. Mated my Double Stroke up with my 50 lux pre-asph and a roll of Tri-X and WOW, the ease of focus with that viewfinder, the silky smooth film advance, and stellar image quality, what's not to love.

enboe Posted October 13, 2012 Share #220 Posted October 13, 2012 Bruno, I'm a little worried I am under-stocking my film for the trip, but it's a familiar subject matter and I know the key vantage points. If all else fails, there's always the possibility of a trip to Colonial Photo. They're decent folks, and they keep a good selection of film in stock. My counter challenge - can you live with 36 exposures for an entire day? Makes one think for every press of the button. Enjoy. Eric
