ns_ng Posted May 4, 2010 Share #41 Posted May 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why not offer both, M10 RF and M10 EVIL? The latter might attract new M users. N.S. Ng
Advertisement Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Hi ns_ng, Take a look here The M10 or a new camera line? [Merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 4, 2010 Share #42 Posted May 4, 2010 Leica M10 and Leica E1 you mean The Evil camera would not be an M(esssucher) camera, after all. I'm sure that something like that will happen, and that the E1 will take Leica R lenses through an adapter. My guess is that it will be full-frame, CMos or Exmor and not built - but badged and maybe styled- by Leica.
bill Posted May 4, 2010 Share #43 Posted May 4, 2010 How many would still use an external viewfinder for lenses < 28mm if there is a live display? Me. I use my SBOOI constantly on my D-Lux 4. - Easy to see in bright light - Easy to see in low light - No distractions - No ghostly glow - less power consumed Regards, Bill
farnz Posted May 4, 2010 Share #44 Posted May 4, 2010 Maybe not so many who want it are answering, because they don't want to be offended all the time? ... and maybe all those who do want video have already answered. Who can tell either way. Pete.
!Nomad64 Posted May 4, 2010 Share #45 Posted May 4, 2010 Maybe not so many who want it are answering, because they don't want to be offended all the time? Seems to me that no one was offended here. Just confronting different points of view. Unless explaining one own's reasons to like or dislike something is deemed offensive by the counterparts. Philippe D. Posted May 4, 2010 Share #46 Posted May 4, 2010 All those that dislike wobbly framing at arms' length?I only use the viewfinder on G1, never the display to focus.Would hate to hold the camera 50cm away from my nose. The Evil camera would not be an M(esssucher) camera, after all.But an EVIL could look and feel like an M.Same viewfinder position on the left side. No unnecessary feature. Keep it simple. That's M. I guess if Zeiss makes a full frame EVIL out of the Ikon (with M mount) in cooperation with Sony, I'll jump right away. No question.

lct Posted May 5, 2010 Share #49 Posted May 5, 2010 Plutôt moche votre truc! Just kidding. A PanaLeica version could loook somewhat like this perhaps, w/o the blue eye though.
rolu Posted May 5, 2010 Share #50 Posted May 5, 2010 I think Jaap nailed it: Leica M10 and Leica E1 you mean The Evil camera would not be an M(esssucher) camera, after all. I'm sure that something like that will happen, and that the E1 will take Leica R lenses through an adapter. My guess is that it will be full-frame, CMos or Exmor and not built - but badged and maybe styled- by Leica. Evil and video in an M can only be an additional electronic function in the menu in addition to the Meßsucher and should not influence the shape or handling of the camera at all! Overgaard Posted May 5, 2010 Share #51 Posted May 5, 2010 Interesting idea to snap up intromarket users and/or R-glass. But not if it's a whole new series of lenses. Should take M and R lenses Rumor: Leica EVIL camera for Photokina | Leica News & Rumors
bill Posted May 5, 2010 Share #52 Posted May 5, 2010 Evil and video in an M can only be an additional electronic function in the menu... 1. It's not that simple. This is the "one more wafer thin mint" school of design. All I see on the outside is one button, therefore that's all that has changed - simple... 2. I DO NOT WANT BLOATWARE THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR AND WILL NEVER USE. Regards, Bill

I DO NOT WANT BLOATWARE THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR AND WILL NEVER USE. Regards, Bill I think you said this already. Is this your tolerance again? Let me say something about economics: In a market economy any manufacturer will charge what people are willing to pay. Apart from the negectible cost (per camera) of programming some (I assume ) well known algorithms, custumers are nowadays expecting this function as a given. So there is no extra pricing power and no higher retail price to be expected. How much did the 5D2 price go up vs. 5D with some pixels more?
bill Posted May 5, 2010 Share #54 Posted May 5, 2010 Let me say something about economics... Leica is a small company. Canon is a large company. Leica has few product lines. Canon has many product lines. Leica has little to invest in R&D. Canon has lots to invest in R&D. Leica has little ability to drive down supplier prices. Canon has considerable ability due to their size. Leica subcontracts many components, eg sensors. Canon makes many components themselves, eg sensors. Let me say something about programming. No. D'you know what? I honestly cannot be bothered. You have proved my point. You have no comprehension of what it would take to add the facilities you crave. Neither do I, but a) I don't underestimate the work involved and I don't dismiss it as minor. Get real. Please. Have your EVIL camera with an M mount, by all means. Leave the rangefinder camera alone. Simples. Regards, Bill
rolu Posted May 5, 2010 Share #55 Posted May 5, 2010 ...Let me say something about programming. No. D'you know what? I honestly cannot be bothered. You have proved my point. You have no comprehension of ... Bill Sorry, but I cannot follow your logic. The problem is, that you don't take into consideration, what has been written in posts, you claim refering to. Rather you're getting personal. This unfortunately destroys the culture of a forum and makes matter of fact discussions impossible. Please consider this. I wished the forum would become more matter-of-factly. To many discussions go off course like this.

rosuna Posted May 5, 2010 Share #60 Posted May 5, 2010 Will Leica start a new camera line? Rumor: Leica EVIL camera for Photokina | Leica News & Rumors If yes, will it accept M lenses? Thomas It should accept M lenses, but it would imply the same lens-to-flange distance or a format smaller than 24x36mm. It is not easy. Leica has to be smart and careful in the design of a new system... A full frame EVIL camera is a great idea, but synergies with the M system are necessary for the two systems to survive in the long term...
