As my photo (not a patch on Ivan's!) was taken on a Digilux2, that's the thread I have placed it in.  Taken in 2015.

Thank you! Found it using the search function which worked on this occasion....

Does anyone here know why there was a NACA duct and so many louvres on the bonnet of the XJ 13?

As far as Norman Dewis and 'The Accident' goes; I'm sure that I read - some 35 years ago so cut me some slack! - a transcript of an interiew with Mr. Dewis himself where he mentioned that an issue with one(?) of the car's tyres had been raised prior to the fateful run but that he chose to go ahead with the test-run anyway which resulted in the near total destruction of the car as originally built.

Rubbish on the road or not were money not to be an issue the asking price for one of those close-replicas - as mentioned by Wilson on post #19271 - would, IMO, be Money Well Spent.

...As mentioned, a huge bonus was that Norman Dewis, David Hobbs and Richard Atwood where standing nearby, trying to wake up and get warm with hot teas in their hands and were more than willing to talk about their time at Jaguar and their experiences with this car.....delightful...

That must have been an extraordinary experience! I'm sure you found it to be both utterly fascinating and enjoyable in equal measure.

I suspect the NACA duct was to cool the notorious Lucas Opus ignition pack. I made the mistake of putting this on my XK150S Jaguar. If I got stuck in heavy traffic, it was only a matter of time before the Opus box overheated and shut down. After a month or so of that rubbish I switched the ignition to Lumenition, which worked perfectly thereafter. I formed a very good relationship with Autocar Electrical in Borough Road near Elephant and Castle in London and fitted custom made Lumenition to many cars afterwards, including my Ferrari 365GTC and Ralt RT40 Judd F2 car.

For the next riddle car something a bit more light-hearted and I think easier to identify.

In this case I'm not so much looking for the name of the manufacturer, which I believe is fairly obvious, but would like the year, model designation and the model name

Two days and no guesses. Would it help if there were another clue- before the big reveal?

It's an early type Aston Martin DB2 from around 1950/52 with the 2.6 litre straight six Lagonda engine, designed by Willie Watson under the eye of W.O.Bentley. The rhomboidal front air intakes are a dead give-away.

Well & accurately described. It is indeed a 1950 Aston-Martin DB2 ' Washboard', the first of the 'modern' Astons, after the purchase and merger by David Brown ( hence the DB designation ) of Aston-Martin and Lagonda in 1947. The DB2 was premiered at the New York Auto Show in 1950, but three pre-production competition coupes were built for the A-M works team and entered in the 1949 LeMMans 24 hours. This car is one of these three and served essentially as the development mule for the series.

The first 50 or so DB2s had the distinctive three piece grill, which was the most distintive outward styling motiff and why the caption to post #19284 said " I believe is fairly obvious", and which was changed to the one piece AM  grill opening after the first series of cars and has been in use ever since. The same 50 cars also had a large rectangular front-fender side grills wwith vertical louveres and looked just like the old-style washboards, to allow hot air out of the engine compartment but that too was changed (eliminated )for the second series of cars. Production of DB2s continued through 1952 after which the company began producing dedicated race cars and more luxurious& expensive road cars separately.

Thanks for participating and if you're up to it, your turn, Wilson.

Sorry guys no new cars to post, as in and out of hospital on an almost daily basis at the moment for the next few months. Can anyone else help me out with a new mystery car. I was hoping someone else would spot the characteristic pale metallic green and odd shaped supplementary grilles.

Thank you very much for the History Lesson, John, as it filled a MASSIVE hole in my 'understanding' for want of a better word. I recognised the pretty unique intake vents but had no real conception of their significance to this car nor to the the A-M DB story.

Thanks again!

Philip.

My first thought was that it reminded me of the famous 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom coupe with Jonckheere coachwork, you know, the black one off coupe with the perfectly circular doors, but its tail fin is smaller and more integrated into the rear instead of being bolted on as a seperate part......so basically I have nothing to offer.
