Those Michelin X's were very "squealy". Back in the days when during the evening before the race just after the roads were shut off to the public, you could do a few quick laps of the Le Mans circuit in a road car, if you were even vaguely linked to one of the teams as a signaller/ lap charter/mechanic/hanger on, etc, my brother woke everyone up by driving his 2600 Coupé with four of us on board, very rapidly round Le Sarthe with the X's howling away. I never raced at Le Mans, either in period or on one of the Classic Le Mans, which is a big regret. I was due to be one of the drivers of the Drogo bodied Ferrari 250LM in the 2011 classic but during practice down at the Guadec circuit near Grenada in Spain, it became obvious that I had a hernia that had to be sorted. Both my brother and I  gave up our race licences after Spa Classic 2012 for health reasons, so all the racing Ferraris, Maseratis and Jaguars were sold.

Here is your next one and all that you are getting is a wheel but a very distinctive and unique wheel. I want make, model, variant and approx year. For bonus points, what is the tyre.

I wondered if the angle was foreshortening the car ...

Indeed it did and the tyres looked so slim that I really excluded most Alfas right from the beginning. Well spotted, Wilson!

The Michelin X was designed originally for longevity.  IMHO it is a touring tyre, not much better than cross-plys as far as handling goes, and worse in the wet.

I would think this is a tipo 105 2000 GT Veloce (1971-76) but with the wheels I´m a bit clueless. Looks a bit like an Excelsio Avus but not exactely the same. Older rubber?

Right make but wrong car. Much more special than that. It is specialist competition rubber. I can see the make on the sidewall.

Yes an Autodelta Alfa Giulietta 1600 GTA Corsa from 1967. The tyres BTW are Avon CR6ZZ classic race/rally tyres, which are excellent. Unfortunately not available in the sizes for my 911 RSR (225-45 R15 and 285-40 or 45 R15). This GTA, sadly, was a disappointing car with we believe a distinctly under-par engine. The seller claimed 170 BHP and our estimate was nearer to 120 or less and the seller agreed to take it back. It also felt a lot heavier than the claimed 750kg. This is taken at my house en route to test at Goodwood but given its poor performance, we did not bother.

Wilson, was it a genuine GTA?

Yes FIA/FIVA papers and original homologation certificate as a Corsa model. It had the correct dual plug head, dry sump, 45 Webers, Ferrari Dino distributor etc etc. It came via a very reputable dealer, who took it back immediately when we told him that it felt slow and heavy. We had done a lot of business with him over the years. He admitted he had not driven it himself.

I can only imagine the engine was very much out of condition.  Here is Alec Mildren's GTA at Lakeside, Queensland in 1967.  Mildren was the AR importer at the time:
