wlaidlaw Posted May 17, 2020 Share #12981  Posted May 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) John, I know what this car is but I have nothing to post, so I will leave it to others. Steve McQueen put Ferrari badges on his one. When I last saw this car at Pebble Beach in I think 2003, it was painted cream. Wilson
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Z. Goriup Posted May 17, 2020 Share #12982  Posted May 17, 2020 You've pegged it, Wilson. Here's a photo of the Steve McQueen car Wilson is referring to, taken while it was consigned for sale at Fantasy Junction.....but please note that even though it shares a model number and is based on the same mechanical components as the subject car, it was bodied by a different carrozzeria and sketched by a different designer , thus bears little similarity to the subject coupe. Please note I've left the hood badge in the image. Perhaps that'll be sufficient to allow someone to identify the make of this and the current 'puzzle car. If there are no more guesses, I'll do a Poirot and post the answer this evening 'when all will be revealed'. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! hektor Posted May 17, 2020 Share #12986  Posted May 17, 2020 Good morning Pippy. I think that is close enough. It is in fact a Bristol 402, which generically was as you suggested. With thanks Hektor

Here's another Balbo 208 CS stealing the show in the famous Corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca.. Thanks for your participation...............your turn. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! pippy Posted May 18, 2020 Share #12990  Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Thank you both, Hektor and John. Beautiful pair of cars! Here's something which is a regular in the show area of the annual Crystal Palace Park 'Motorsport at the Palace' event which ought to have been taking place about now! The usual details and, given the tid-bit about its appearances, a bonus point or three if anyone knows a bit of this particular car's competition history! Good luck, All! Welcome, dear visitor! John Z. Goriup Posted May 18, 2020 Share #12991  Posted May 18, 2020 I'm positive I know what car this is, but won't come out with it, rather, in an unpresedented breach of etiquette which I hope will be forgiven, I will suggest that the most important clue to identifying this car is to follow the three-lugbolt wheels....very few used this configuration. Respectfully, JZG
pippy Posted May 18, 2020 Share #12992  Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Thank you John! I was beginning to think I had repeated my embarrassing faux-pas from a few months back in posting something completely unknown...... If, at the end, you wish to add the story of a part of its history please do! For anyone else here's a pretty unique feature of these (IMO) beautiful little runabouts; Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted May 19, 2020 Share #12999 Â Posted May 19, 2020 If not for those rubber pieces I'd think it was a Duetto, but instead, perhaps something of lower production, Italian, and maybe less expensive.
a.j.z Posted May 19, 2020 Share #13000  Posted May 19, 2020 (edited) Other than in case of the Alpine, the color here is rather misleading. It is not Italian. Lower production is correct. I do not know the original price but assume that it was not on the high end - although maybe difficult to compare as the type somehow was unique. The bumper may not be on all cars of this type. Edited May 19, 2020 by a.j.z
