Is it Japanese at all? I think that I have seen this brand sign somewhere. Just to make sure: when you say that It is not European, you mean that it is also not from the UK? Not sure the rest doesn’t fit.....it has the same subtle flat pressing line above the louvres, isn’t US or European, and was the first Wankel-engined mass-produced Mazda. Maybe the bottom edge of the arch is detailed a tiny bit squarer.

a.j.z Posted March 28, 2020 Share #12882 Posted March 28, 2020 Sorry, I did not read John‘s comment properly. I think that you are correct and it is a Cosmo.

Here's the first correct reply. It is a Mazda Cosmo............in fact it's Jay Leno's Cosmo, one of the first cars in his massive collection, and one he said he'll never sell. Completely original Your turn, Andreas.................and thanks to all who participatied. JZG Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted April 2, 2020 Share #12886 Posted April 2, 2020 Well, let's try this one. Extra points if you can tell who the owner was and where the car is now. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted April 2, 2020 Share #12887 Posted April 2, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think it is a 1928 Franklin Four Passenger Torpedo Phaeton from 1928. The previous owner was I think George Staley and it is now at the North East Classic Car Museum at Norwich, NY. Wilson
stuny Posted April 2, 2020 Share #12888 Posted April 2, 2020 Wilson - Excellent progress, but not quite there. Correct marque and vintage. Wrong model, and therefore the extra points for owners and location are still open.
wlaidlaw Posted April 2, 2020 Share #12889 Posted April 2, 2020 Stuart, Then it is probably the other well known Franklin, the Roadster originally owned by Jesse Harlan Lincoln, the granddaughter of Abe Lincoln. I think this car is now owned by Hildene but not sure. My book covering classic American Automobiles is down in France and my Georgano Encyclopaedia of the Automobile is too old an edition to cover this. stuny Posted April 3, 2020 Share #12890 Posted April 3, 2020 No surprise that you got it, Wilson. It is indeed owned by Hilene (https://hildene.org/), the Lincoln family home at the edge of Manchester, Vermont. It's a nice town with a superb book store and Mother Myrick's, a world-class confectionery (https://www.mothermyricks.com/ order their buttercrunch). Your turn Welcome, dear visitor! I was thinking along those lines too as the screen is similar - but the 401 (+402s) have “opposed” wipers rather than synchronised (not sure whether there’s a technical term).. Are we looking at the right date - ie c. 48-mid 50s?

NigelG Posted April 4, 2020 Share #12898 Posted April 4, 2020 I’m thinking that it looks like a Delahaye (split screen, bonnet centre chrome trim) maybe a 135? But I can’t think of the British connection - or exactly which of the many coachbuilt versions it could be (all French houses I think)
wlaidlaw Posted April 4, 2020 Share #12899 Posted April 4, 2020 Not a Delahaye or indeed any French connection. Think of smaller makers of cars, albeit a well known name. Wilson
