No more takers? I will give it to NigelG then as he gave the nearest to the full title. It is a Vauxhall 20/60 (can also be 20-60) Richmond. This particular car MY 6877 is a film star and has its own entry in the Internet Movie Cars Data Base IMCDB.

The car now lives in Cornwall, but it was in Ireland for part of its life, which is where I saw it.

Photo below. This one is dark as I wanted to capture the rain drops.

I will post another photo in a new reply. I had intended to post another image here but posting this response has been shockingly clunky thanks to the 'image size bug' on the Forum. It is about time that this was fixed.

See my response above to make sense of this post. Here is a second photo of Vauxhall 20-60 MY 6877. It is the car on the left in this photo. I had reduced the size of this image, but the Forum editor makes it out to be much larger than it actually is. This bug has been reported elsewhere on the Forum, but it has not been fixed.

I thought it was the very similar but 2 door Kingston 20/60 Coupé. I have a feeling this car was also made or at least assembled in Australia, maybe badged as a Holden from 1930 onwards.

The Vauxhall 20/60 engine is a very odd mixture of ancient and modern. My book lists it as having a 9 main bearing crankshaft, which I assume is a misprint and they mean 7. Still impressive when many British six cylinder engines of the period only had 4 or 5. It was overhead valve and had aluminium alloy rockers. The odd thing that seems primitive, is that the earlier versions still had cast iron pistons. When you think that W.O.Bentley had developed aluminium alloy pistons for his BR1 aero engine as far back as 1915, still to be using cast iron in 1928 seems retrograde. The larger 2916 engine switched to aluminium pistons. I would assume that the engine in the Vauxhall BX 20HP that my father had all through WW2, would have had a development of this engine. It left my father with a lifetime loathing of Vauxhall cars!

and in the USA Harry Miller was using aluminium alloy pistons as early as 1914.
