Thanks Wilson. 450 quid! My two cars cost me $265 each or about 140 GBP. I'm getting off really easily. The mark doesn't matter.

Michael,

In the UK, you pay per carbon dioxides. If you have an electric (or hybrid, where the manufacturers have fudged the figures to produce a totally unrealistic CO₂ figure), you pay no annual car tax at all. For example if I had a Hybrid Porsche 918, capable of around 220 MPH, I would pay no tax. I even pay £74 per annum for my Morgan 3 wheeler, which although it lives in France, is registered in the UK. I took it down to my local French car registration office in Draguignan, they scratched their heads for a bit and eventually said "keep it registered in Britain, as we don't have a clue what it should be".

Dunk,

French and drifted away to a rather sad end, using proprietary USA Continental engines. They finally died in 1948, where they only made 4 cars. In their time, they were probably the premier French luxury (not sporting) car.

Dunk,

A Delaunay-Belleville but I think a 21HP/6 or maybe a later 21/75 of 1927-28. Sadly the person working on this car and many others in the collection became mentally unstable and threw all the paper work, chassis plates and history of this and all the other cars into a lake, so the precise provenance of this one has disappeared. It has a wonderful teak boat tail body but I suspect it is a bit of a pig to drive. The D-B's along with Isotta Fraschinis were notorious for their extremely heavy steering, which is why in period photographs you rarely see them being driven by anything other than a chauffeur.

Your turn. I am off the forum for three weeks going to the Outer Banks, NC and only taking an iPad and M240 with me.

Have to agree Wilson.

Assume that's a clue for Stuart et al unless you wish to expand on your description?

I was not going to say what it is as I am not going to have time to find another car to post. I know this car, as I think it was the one in their showroom or at least it is the same colour. At that price you might have thought they would have engineered proper windows.

The previous owner of the company was one of the rudest people you would ever not want to meet. When we set up our own company we decided not to give the directors company cars but give a car allowance, with the suggestion that a classic car made more sense from the tax POV. I went to the showroom to discuss buying an older model of this make and talked to the owner. I was so put off by his appalling attitude that I left, having told him what I thought of his sales technique and bought a BMW M6 instead.

When first announced, the company claimed the car was capable of 270mph but production versions' engines were electronically limited  … thus some TVRs are faster.

Dunk,

I think it has around 600-700HP, so 270MPH was totally pie in the sky. You need well over 1000HP to go at that speed (Bugatti Veyron SS, Hennessey and Konigseggggggg).

Wilson,

I have no experience with the owners of said company, but I do like the looks of some of their older models. And in some ways (if I remember correctly), your alternative choice, a BMW, has a connection to the history of that company ;) (I have no pics ready at present, so I won't spill the beans either)
