Elite

That's the one, a 1958 Lotus Elite Type 14.

As most of you probably know, Lotus made 2 Elite models, the 1st generation, introduced on 1957 and the ( in my opinion quite ugly four-seater )Type 75/83  brought out in 1974, and produced until about 1983. Wonderful little car, the first gen. model, but ungodly uncomfortable for a large & bulky individual like me. I lived in Chicago at the time and arranged with Victor Motors in Evanston for an extended weekend test-drive of one, but I never could get past the problem of one of my size 13 feet covering two pedals, no matter how hard I tried to get around this, nor what type of shoes I wore....in addition to my arse being too wide for the seats. The interior was simply too small & tight for me to drive it safely, enjoyably & effectively.

When I mentioned the underside of the open 'bonnet' as an important clue, I meant  that in my opinion it was quite obvious that it is made from fiberglass, whereas all the guesses except the Alpine mentioned all-metal cars. The Lotus Elite was one of the very first steel X-frame / fiberglass body efforts.

Your turn Stuart.

........and another image of a recently restored Elite, this one a Concours winner

Beautiful little cars, and I shall be eternally sorry I did not get to enjoy what I'm certain would have been a long-term relationship with the silver / blue 'demo' I owned for a few days.

Sounds like you forgot to “add lightness” as per Mr Chapman’s ethos 😉

Too small/cramped for a lot of people I think but very lovely.

They are truly lovely.  The last one Saw waist November 2022 in theLane Auto Museum outside of Nashville. Nice to see an AH 100/4 and a Europa in your photos.  I'll post something later today.

BTW:  Exactly what Caddy was the previous mystery car?

I think after initial doubts that the year might not be exactly correct, Philip agreed that it was indeed a 1966 DeVille Convertible.
