Advertisement Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Hi hektor, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17242 Posted April 6, 2022 You're right - We should have recognized if from the film - A '53 Sunbeam Alpine. Additionally, since an old girlfriend of mine loved this car, I should have remembered it.
wlaidlaw Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17243 Posted April 6, 2022 Stuart, I am very surprised that the usual suspects have not jumped on this one. With its louvred bonnet, I think it is eminently recognisable. Wilson
NigelG Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17244 Posted April 6, 2022 (edited) Maybe we were pondering Mk1 vs Mk 3… 😉 I’ve not seen a bonnet strap on the versions I saw. Also maybe like others I’m searching for something to post before responding.. Edited April 6, 2022 by NigelG
wlaidlaw Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17245 Posted April 6, 2022 There were two of those in the street where I was brought up. One for the Brigadier and one for the local ladies hairdresser. I did comment once to my father that she must be doing awfully well to afford one of those. My father who was was rather victorian in his outlook, went a bit red and spluttered something. Only much later did I find out that as well as cutting hair, she also offered other services to discerning gentlemen, looking for some strict discipline 🥰. stuny Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17246 Posted April 6, 2022 the '54 Roadster had bonnet louvers and a leather strap - Or at least one I've seen.
NigelG Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17247 Posted April 6, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Re having something to post it’s become clear that really in NYC nothing of any interest is “street-parked”. It’s obvious (now🙄) that the very term itself implies there is “somewhere else” to park ie a parking garage whereas in London everything is usually just “at the kerb”. My square in W2 regularly hosts an AM DB6, Audi RS6/R8/S8(mine!)/Bentleys/Multiple Porsches inc a GT3 and an occasional Dino or GTB. stuny Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17248 Posted April 6, 2022 Nigel - I've found as I wander town that it's not unusual to see something interesting parked or driven; and if I go into parking garages in higher end areas, several unusual cars are normally parked near the attendant's booth. One that never fails to have such vehicles is directly across the street from City Center Theater on West 55th Street.
hektor Posted April 6, 2022 Share #17249 Posted April 6, 2022 Dear Stuart, you were the first to correctly identify the Sunbeam Alpine. Good luck with the parking garages in higher end areas, and across the street from City Center Theater on West 55th Street
stuny Posted April 7, 2022 Share #17250 Posted April 7, 2022 Thank you, Hektor. Thís one shouldn't be too difficult. I did NOT see it on the streets of NY, nor in a high-end garage: Welcome, dear visitor!
