Ronald, here is another clue, for which the car was renowned.  Furthermore it had a 5.3 litre motor.

Thanks Hektor, I already mentioned the car when I edited my posting prior to your posting. And yes, possibly the oldest surviving shaft driven Mercedes.

Interesting path led me to it. I had "Belgium" in mind right from the start (hence my Imperia/Minerva guess) but it was the body style "Roi des Belges" which has a belgium flavor.

Apologies Rona!d.  It is midnight here and I did not notice your penultimate comment.  Yes, a 1908 D.M.G. Mercédès

I am going to guess a Maserati 3500 GT of around 1963, with a coach built body (Frua, Ghia, Boano, Drogo, etc).

Perfect, yes a 3500 GTI Convertible from 1963. I cannot say, which coachbuilder.

I now do not have access to the photos showing the full car. I first saw the 3500 on an event for classic cars and the found the car on the website of a dealer quite some time ago (although is a very nice car it apparently is not easy to sell - which may also be due to the price tag - as it is still there: https://carcollection.at/fahrzeugdetails/?id=106).

Thanks you for the link, Andreas! I was rather stuck as to what to buy the wife for her Christmas so the timing is Perfect!.......and then I woke up.

Very elegant car, though!

Philip.

There’s a rather lovely one for sale with Joe Macari which would avoid all the travel restrictions - you could get it home and wrapped in time for the 24th....😄

Andreas,

If you compare the price to a Ferrari 250GT California Spider Mk 11, the price looks eminently reasonable. €725, 000, which I am sure in the current climate would be negotiable to around €600,000 to €650,000, is about a tenth of what you would have to pay for a nice Cal Spider. Maybe the Cal Spider is a tad prettier but unless heavily breathed on by the likes of Mototechnique of West Molesey in south London, they are not that great to drive, feeling rather wooden with a lot of scuttle shake.

Is it my turn?

I guess so, Wilson.

If my "play money" wouldn´t be blocked for an upcoming BMW 328 Roadster, I´d be tempted to like this Vignale Maserati. I´d wrap the shiny trunk leather in an old horse rug though, don´t wear such dark sunglasses when on vacation and getting the lugguage out of the trunk would be dangerous for my eyes or the hotel boy might become blind 😉 Oh, I´m dreaming of travelling, stupid me.
