John,

I know what this car is but I have nothing to post, so I will leave it to others. Steve McQueen put Ferrari badges on his one. When I last saw this car at Pebble Beach in I think 2003, it was painted cream.

You've pegged it, Wilson. Here's a photo of the Steve McQueen car Wilson is referring to, taken while it was consigned for sale at Fantasy Junction.....but please note that even though it shares a model number and is based on the same mechanical components as the subject car, it was bodied by a different carrozzeria and sketched by a different designer , thus bears little similarity to the subject coupe. Please note I've left the hood badge in the image. Perhaps that'll be sufficient to allow someone to identify the make of this and the current 'puzzle car.

If there are no more guesses, I'll do a Poirot and post the answer this evening 'when all will be revealed'.

Seem to have missed out the one hektor posted while the discussion whether to continue with the thread was going on.

I read it regularly, but if I don't have a clue will not post a comment as to current car question.

Looks a bit like a Bristol 401 cabriolet?

Philip.

Is it a (Balbo-bodied?) c. 1952 Siata 208 CS?

I'd be another who would be very sad to see this thread be allowed to wither....

Philip.

Yes,  a '53 SIATA Balbo 208 CS. Here's another Balbo 208 CS stealing the show in the famous Corkscrew turn at Laguna Seca..

Thanks for your participation...............your turn.

Thank you both, Hektor and John. Beautiful pair of cars!

Here's something which is a regular in the show area of the annual Crystal Palace Park 'Motorsport at the Palace' event which ought to have been taking place about now!

The usual details and, given the tid-bit about its appearances, a bonus point or three if anyone knows a bit of this particular car's competition history!

Good luck, All!

I'm positive I know what car this is, but won't come out with it, rather, in an unpresedented breach of etiquette which I hope will be forgiven, I will suggest that the most important clue to identifying this car is to follow the three-lugbolt wheels....very few used this configuration.

Respectfully,

JZG

Thank you John!

I was beginning to think I had repeated my embarrassing faux-pas from a few months back in posting something completely unknown......

If, at the end, you wish to add the story of a part of its history please do!

For anyone else here's a pretty unique feature of these (IMO) beautiful little runabouts;

Oh, well, y'know...I suppose that you are sort-of in the right ball-park.....

Absolutely! The exact machine. Very well played, a.j.z! You win tonight's star prize!

Just for fun here's another snap from the rear 3/4 and another of what it showed on the A4 sheet in the 'screen (as seen in the image in your link);

Other than in case of the Alpine, the color here is rather misleading. It is not Italian. Lower production is correct. I do not know the original price but assume that it was not on the high end - although maybe difficult to compare as the type somehow was unique.

The bumper may not be on all cars of this type.
