Rona!d Posted April 21, 2011 Share #942 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) What about a Super Snipe then? (edit: series III or series IV) Edited April 21, 2011 by Rona|d
Sasmon Posted April 21, 2011 Share #943 Posted April 21, 2011 Indeed! I must admit, I do not know the exact series, but I can tell you it looks like it is not in working condition, but it seems to be facing a different direction each time I walk past it, so it must still be running. Over to you.........
stuny Posted April 21, 2011 Share #944 Posted April 21, 2011 Drat! I thought it was a Hillman Minx.
Rona!d Posted April 21, 2011 Share #945 Posted April 21, 2011 Do you have a side view of that old lady? As far as I remember, the difference between series 3 and 4 is the roof line and the window of the rear doors. Give me some time with a new car, we have perfect roadster weather and I need to knock off - got squared eyes on the iMac today

hkaspenberg Posted April 21, 2011 Share #947 Posted April 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Seems quite like Series III. Could also be a Series II, launched in 1961 (as yours truly) as they had identical tail-lights, but the back windows are a bit different. See Simon Cars - Humber Hawk Series I to V ;-D Hans
Sasmon Posted April 21, 2011 Share #948 Posted April 21, 2011 This is the only other picture I have. Next time I walk past it with a camera, I might get a couple more.

See Simon Cars - Humber Hawk Series I to V ;-D Hans Hans, this can't be a series 2, only series 3 or 4 had the rear trim line across the trunk. LuxBob Posted April 22, 2011 Share #951 Posted April 22, 2011 As a snotty young programmer in the late sixties working for a government organisation, I had to work in one part of London and run my programs in a different part. This was the days of punched cards and to ensure security and no foul ups I had to accompany the data. Chauffeur driven Humber Super Snipes, Rovers and Austin Westminsters from senior people in the organisation were deputed to take us on this journey. By far my favourite car for this was the Super Snipe. Pity I came in late on this one.
Rona!d Posted April 22, 2011 Share #952 Posted April 22, 2011 Bob, thanks for the good story. I was always surprised how many different cars that island had. Most of them never made it over to the mainland in larger numbers.
LuxBob Posted April 22, 2011 Share #953 Posted April 22, 2011 Bob, thanks for the good story. I was always surprised how many different cars that island had. Most of them never made it over to the mainland in larger numbers. A lot of expertise dissipated amongst a lot of manufacturers and almost nothing survives today. Even Bristol is under administration. I think, still at that time, UK saw its main export markets as the one time colonies and these were possibly easy sales with little or no competition until other manufacturers began to look for new markets and Peugeot, VW, Mercedes followed by Toyota and Honda made quick inroads. Anyway I still have fond memories of the Super Snipe.
luigi bertolotti Posted April 22, 2011 Share #954 Posted April 22, 2011 Bob, thanks for the good story. I was always surprised how many different cars that island had. Most of them never made it over to the mainland in larger numbers. Humber, Hillman, Vanden Plus, Sunbeam, Bristol, Alvis, Vauxhall, Triumph, Rover, Fairthorpe, Trojan, Elva, Bond, AC.... it's really incredible... ... not to speak of motorbikes... oh good ol'England... LuxBob Posted April 25, 2011 Share #960 Posted April 25, 2011 Could it be a Singer? Not Le Mans but they had quite a few drop heads in the thirties. Ironically before Singer disappeared they came under the ownership of the Rootes Group, as also did Humber.
