pop Posted May 16, 2010 Share #141 Posted May 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Probably already posted here: 1) The dealer information published at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-m9/119828-summilux-35mm-neu-3.html#post1329478 shows prices both with and without VAT, to wit €4823 without and €5190 with VAT. 2) Lens release date is given there as 17. May 2010. With reference to the mentioned document: Given the current exchange rate from CHF to EUR of about 0.72, the Swiss price would be reckoned as EUR 3442, excluding VAT. Delivery of the product will start from the end of Juli 2010. 17. May 2010 is the Sperrfrist, the date after which information about the lens is to be made public. Advertisement Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Hi pop, Take a look here new Summilux 35mm [ Merged ]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted May 16, 2010 Share #142 Posted May 16, 2010 ...At any rate, that's back to the originally published data from the Ukrainian site: Indeed Howard. The 'LCI net price' is interesting as well. Removing the cache needs Adobe Acrobat Pro though.
ho_co Posted May 16, 2010 Share #143 Posted May 16, 2010 Gee, lct, I had no idea that could be done (and obviously I don't have the software). I knew people had said that the net prices were available on that site, but I knew I didn't find them. Thanks for the new wisdom! Uli said on the German forum (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-m9/119828-summilux-35mm-neu-4.html#post1329628) that these erroneous 'swings' in price had got him interested again. Had originally said anything over 3500 euro was beyond his interest; next saw the mistaken price of 4995. And then when the price 'dropped' again to "only" 3750 euro, it seemed almost reasonable. This is good under-the-radar marketing if nothing else.

ho_co Posted May 16, 2010 Share #145 Posted May 16, 2010 Thanks, pop! "Lens release date" is ambiguous. I should have said "Announcement date." I did note (#101 above) that delivery is expected from June.

ampguy Posted May 17, 2010 Share #147 Posted May 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's possible that the cost savings and gross margins for the new product were not realized after initial production of samples began. Alternatively, it could be that it was not properly designed for the manufacture based on the qualities of off the shelf glass and its availability. That's the first time I hear of any lens-production in Portugal. The Camera-bodies have been produced there since the 70s - but no lenses. Makes me aware again not to trust any talk from "insiders" - neither when they say they had a new item already in their hands nor when they tell you the opposite. BRJR Posted May 17, 2010 Share #148 Posted May 17, 2010 Based on info at the link, below; and, Leica is said to have released information to the Press about it. I have seen nothing on the official Leica Web Site yet; but, probably will be at anytime now: The new LEICA SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH is now official (press release) | Leica News & Rumors

ho_co Posted May 17, 2010 Share #150 Posted May 17, 2010 Well, I'll be hornswaggled! The US press release says the same thing we'd already read about! Only a 32% increase in weight, and 3 mm more girth. Looks like exactly what LFI said a year or so back (paraphrasing), "If we were designing it today, we'd give it a floating element." Very impressive IMHO, that apparently the previous version didn't need major redesign. Looks as if this lens is just the same except for the floating element, as has been said before. And only $500 more than its predecessor. Looks like a winner, no?
batmobile Posted May 17, 2010 Share #151 Posted May 17, 2010 It is impressive, but I hope they have made the new version a little more flare resistant. I suppose a few tweaks could possibly take care of that as more recent lenses are def more resistant. I hope it has similar rendering to the 24 lux as that is so smooth and it would be nice for them to partner seamlessly. Its a shame we will have to wait another few months for it to be available. I could do with one now! I am glad they did not go nuts on the price, but its still well over $1k more than the 50 lux asph - not cheap!

UliWer Posted May 17, 2010 Share #153 Posted May 17, 2010 When I look at the data-sheet on the Leica-Homepage I can't find any differences in the MTF-graphs and those for distortion and vignetting. Even the photo shows the old one, as the pictures of new one which have leaked before showed diffferent engravings for f-stops. Either Leica has yet to update their website, or the "new" one is not really new.

scott kirkpatrick Posted May 17, 2010 Share #155 Posted May 17, 2010 Some of the Euro-zone price change seems to be due to the recent strong decline in the Euro. I see that the US price is unchanged. luigi bertolotti Posted May 17, 2010 Share #156 Posted May 17, 2010 So, apparently, the basic glass schema ought to be not different from the previous... with the back 2-elments group that moves while focusing, like in the 50 Lux asph... Leicarumors indeed writes that the floating group is "behind the diaphragm blades", but can be a simplified statement.
lct Posted May 17, 2010 Share #157 Posted May 17, 2010 Some of the Euro-zone price change seems to be due to the recent strong decline in the Euro. yanidel Posted May 17, 2010 Share #158 Posted May 17, 2010 Only a 32% increase in weight, and 3 mm more girth. I think there is no increase in weight. I have seen several times the current one listed at 250 grams but it is not correct, it already weights around 310grs (black). So I would say the new one is going to be about the same weight as the older version.

marknorton Posted May 17, 2010 Share #160 Posted May 17, 2010 DPreview: "recommended price of $4,995/£3,375" £3,375. Aside from the fact this is presumably a better lens, Leica continue to redefine the word "inflation". In 2006, less than 4 years ago, I paid £1379 for my existing 35mm Summilux.
