Amateurs and just part-time paid shooters, how often do you use your M9?

I haven't gotten around to carrying my M9 around everywhere I go, except on travels away from home, but I am curious as to how often mostly hobbyist photographers (though I am sometimes paid in conjunction with magazine articles) you use your M9. Is it a constant companion, or just one for special occasions?

Well, not every time I leave the house,but a lot more than special occasions. I am an unembarrassed amateur but still have had quite a few pictures published. The mountainous and cold areas of the world, including home in Colorado, are my interest. For this reason, I have always used relatively small and light cameras that are tough enough for inadvertent misuse. I hope my new M9 will be as reliable in this way as the trusty M6. Behavior in the cold is the biggest concern, as the M6 could run quite happily even if the little battery that only ran the meter failed. Time will tell as will spare batteries.

I thought that my D-Lux 4 would remain my "easy-to-take-along" camera, and the M9 would be for more serious shooting only. But, since I got my M9 on February 5, I haven´t touched any other camera. Even when just walking my dog, rhe M9 is always with me.

Every day or two it's shooting something, checking my folders. About 1000 exposures a month.

I was trying to take it with me everywhere and in the winter it goes in a coat pocket. Now the weather is better and the coat is not with me, the M9 is just too big to carry for me.

After paying all that money for it its definitely not for 'special occasions' andalus. Its with me most of the time if I go anywhere, and also gets used two or three times a week on photographic missions of some sort or other. Its probably running at 250 to 350 frames per week on average, but its the summer coming up and that could easily increase. So no, its not a 'boutique' camera that gets dressed up with gadgets and special cases like an ornament, it just gets used as a means of making the photographs I want to make.

Like nearly all the replies here, it's pretty much always with me and I take at least a few shots every day, probably about 1,000 a month. I occasionally sell work, but by no means do I make any significant income, so call me an amateur. For me, the whole point of the M9 was to have the best quality FF 35mm digital camera in a small package I could take anywhere, anytime.

Glad to hear so many keeping their M9 close by. I am beginning to do the same, except that where I live is so darn familiar after 25 years that somehow I don't think it's quite worthy of many photos, unlike a recent trip to Kenya and another to Palm Beach area. Well, I'm off to the West Bank for a month this summer and the only thing that bother me are the Israeli "security" goons. A few months ago some hapless young woman was crossing from Jordan with her Mac Book at the Allenby Bridge and for absolutely no apparent reason an Israli took her computer outside, put it up against a wall and put a 9mm bullet through it. AND she got no relief. I am thinking it would be smart to try to insure camera and computer gear for any overseas trip these days. HOW to do that is something I haven't yet fathomed.

I am in a hospital everyday and theft is always an issue - so the GF1 is with me all the time (although I have the M9 insured - but who wants to wait for month \s for a replacement) ... I long for walks with the M9 on weekends or if I get off work early - oh well

hmmm, indeed. Take care the same folks have been known to shoot people with cameras in the west bank- indeed it is open season on people carrying cameras in a lot of places:

i have the m9 with me daily, everywhere.

i change my lenses, try to keep it light during the day (elmar 50, summar 50, summicron 35 pre-asph, or 35 lux pre-asph.) for night time its either the noctilux or the .95 canon, sometimes the 35 lux pre or ASPH for work.

 

i shoot music often and in that case i bring lots more gear!

M9 arrived last week. Took some shots off it, although was fiddling around with the focus ring a lot. finally got the hang of the thing, but was not so excited as i'd expected. metering is not like the matrix metering whizbang that i get out of my nikon.

 

Then took it to out yesterday; took it out again today to take pictures on the way to work (1 hr commute by train!!).

 

During the last two days,... something happened...something 'zenlike' (pardon the romanticism). What can I say, i'm hooked!. I can't imagine not carrying it around everywhere now!
