wlaidlaw Posted March 16, 2010 Share #141 Posted March 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the red left edge on the WATE is worse than ever - see photo below. I know the WATE was not mentioned in the text, so perhaps I should not be disappointed. Any thoughts on the best person to whom I should sent the DNG to get this looked at for the next FW update? Ario Arioldi Posted March 16, 2010 Share #142 Posted March 16, 2010 Does anybody know whether the new list of recommended SD cards is in addition to the previous list or instead of it? My Sandisk Ultra II 4GB was on the old list but not on the new one. It still seems to work all right but does anyone know whether Leica still approves it for use with the new firmware? I'm using it regularly without any issue. Cheers, Ario
chris_tribble Posted March 16, 2010 Share #143 Posted March 16, 2010 Guys, I don't see any problem in communicating my serial number after having registered the camera and/or having the original invoice. In fact, I can only see advantages. Not only for copyright purposes but also for classifying pictures. Fully agree - it's hugely useful if you have more than one M digital body. BTW - looking back on my M8 archive, Lightroom never had a problem recognising the embedded camera number. re Firmware 1.119 - download, installation, function all fine. Difficult to see where you'd have problems. Overall performance improvements are all welcome. re red edges, my Zeiss 18 looks a bit better. 21 pre-asph around the same. No problem to fix with graduated filter preset in LR. And hey - how many of us spend our time photographing white walls?
palmiro Posted March 16, 2010 Share #144 Posted March 16, 2010 These new ones improvements are very appreciables, but i hoped also for a automatic reset of the temporary exposure compensation; many time i shot with the previous compensation and must re-shot after look the LCD. Bye....
jaapv Posted March 16, 2010 Share #145 Posted March 16, 2010 Just a tip: It is much more efficient to meter manually and compensate than to perform the juggling trick with the shutter button and the wheel. If the shutter is set to soft I get an accidental exposure half the time. (I keep the camera to my eye doing this) Sometimes I wish Leica had left the AE function off altogether and made this a digital M6...

I was shooting in the Wigmore Hall last night - intense light, highly polished string instruments, black costumes, potentially a nightmare. However, by having the camera in manual, you're back in control. The histogram gives you the immediate check you need and once you've got the settings right you can shoot without worrying about exposure - it's just focus and frame that matter.... Jerry_R Posted March 16, 2010 Share #149 Posted March 16, 2010 the improvement on viewing high ISO shots Has anything changed in terms of IQ on higher ISOs? Or just LCD look like? More comments about WATE? I took today morning few SNOW shots with CV 15mm uncoded and coded as 28 f/2. Will be able to post results tonight.
gwelland Posted March 16, 2010 Share #150 Posted March 16, 2010 Sometimes I wish Leica had left the AE function off altogether and made this a digital M6... Oh no ... the hordes of live view, HD video, pop out LCD, auto-everything proponents will be tracking you down for vengeance ... On the flip side, you'll be a star inductee back into the manual shutter re-cock club now. I admit that I also use my digital M about 50% manually and 50% on AE mode. Does that make me a fellow heathen?
TimF Posted March 16, 2010 Share #151 Posted March 16, 2010 Just downloaded but not yet installed. There's no mention in the 'blurb' but I hope Leica will at some point add to the info screen some indication of applied exposure compensation, so it can be checked (and reset to zero if desired) without having to look in the viewfinder. Peter Walker Posted March 16, 2010 Share #153 Posted March 16, 2010 I updated my M9 to 1.116 and immediately noticed two issues: 1- I have Auto Power Off set to a minute and the camera shuts itself off after a minute even if I'm busy scrolling through the menus. Never happened before. Very annoying. 2- When the camera is switched off and I press the shutter release button, the rear LED blinks briefly each time, as if the camera is not actually powered off. This didn't happen with the previous firmware. What gives? My update went very smoothly and can see the improvements in the display. I can confirm the "auto power off" issue. Had mine set to 10 minutes. I was playing with the menus (setting up user profiles). Even through I was actively operating the menu, it powered off at about 10 minutes after I switched it on. Had to turn the power switch from S to Off to S to start it up again. No big deal but maybe a nuisance in a long shooting session. The second issue you mentioned is not an issue. The previous version of the firmware also flashed the red light when powered on. Regards Peter
noah_addis Posted March 16, 2010 Share #154 Posted March 16, 2010 Looks like the red edge is not fixed, at least not with the 21 Elmarit Asph:mad:
Jerry_R Posted March 16, 2010 Share #155 Posted March 16, 2010 Looks like the red edge is not fixed, at least not with the 21 Elmarit Asph:mad: CornerFix forever? Maybe instead of releasing new firmware, it would be easier and even cheaper to work on OFFICIAL RAW DEVELOPER - LIGHTROOM => "P R E S E T"... I wouldn't mind it. mjh Posted March 16, 2010 Share #156 Posted March 16, 2010 I can confirm the "auto power off" issue. Over in ther German language part of the forum, Gertrud Waechter reported she had fixed the issue by turning off auto power off and setting the display brightness to “standard“. When she subsequently returned to the original settings the fix persisted. YMMV etc. but worth trying out.
Marty Posted March 16, 2010 Share #157 Posted March 16, 2010 The second issue you mentioned is not an issue. The previous version of the firmware also flashed the red light when powered on. But not when powered off which is what Derek suggested I think. And it doesn't happen here.

Jerry_R Posted March 16, 2010 Share #160 Posted March 16, 2010 And hey - how many of us spend our time photographing white walls? They appear on almost every photo in my apartment. There is also white cover on the couch. Even coach is like light creammy yellow skin. It is also affected. Also small white ambulance car of my son is visible in corners very often Also I have snow on almost every photo outside since 2-3 months.
