My large Benser case (almost like new with the inserts I need) fits very nicely into my Mountain Equipment Coop (tough-as-chain-mail) back pack. In subsidiary pockets goes my spot meter, table tripod, strap and lots of film. I can also get a small laptop in for travel.

I know – I live in the past. When something new and better comes along, I will consider/contrast/compare. And likely stay put.

Why replace something old proven.

High-end luxury bags only attract attention.

My bag in # 130. No one thinks that in this fu... up 60s plastic bag is a Leica.

Few thieves care for a Leica or can spell it. Something that looks digital like a Canon or Nikon is far more attractive. Then again, an attractive leather bag will sell faster than a Leica once the padded interior and contents are thrown in the nearest bin or river.

stunsworth, that is one salty bag! Follow it to its eternity.

The only comparable I have is my original brown motorcycle jacket, handed down

to me in 1974, originally purchased in the Fifties from Sears & Roebuck and

I passed it pinned with all my medals to a lady biker friend. *Sigh* Long gone.

Thanks Pico. I fell in love with the bag when I saw it in the Les Halles branch of FNAC in Paris. I spent a week or so wondering if I should buy it as it was more expensive than a standard Hadley. I haven’t regretted my purchase.

I’ve gone through about 3 shoulder pads - they used to have a rubber backing that wore out - the new ones are much more robust.

Hi Bill,

Can you post a photo with the Dark Grey next to the Mocha?

I am considering the Last Waltz in Mocha, Dark Grey or Green.

Thanks!

Paul

PS Leica M with longer M lens like 75mm or Noctilux attached ok with the Waltz?

Yes it is Paul and I have since acquired the b-laika bag but in Mocha. It is a little smaller than the Last Waltz.

Paul hope this gives you what you need. Both are beautiful bags and extremely well built. I bought them from Tamarkin in Chicago. If you have not tried them, you should give them a call as they have a supply of bags mot of the time.

Bill,

This is most helpful.  I can see how much lighter the mocha canvas is compared with the Dark Grey.

How supple is the Havana leather on the Last Waltz?

I know Dan Tamarkin when he had a shop in Manhattan in the 90s.  I bought my first Leica lens through him, a used 35 Summilux.

Love the Fogg bags, I bought this one in 1993

Suggest you also consider b-sharp. Useful size larger than b-laika with a handle on top flap.

The Last Waltz has a handle on top as well. Not sure if the boss would go along with another $500 camera bag....!!

Not sure how I would grade suppleness but the leather is certainly not stiff. I would guess they would last as long as your current Fogg bag.

Thanks for the pics Bill.

Any chance of some inside pics with your stuff in them?

Thanks

Terry

The Last Waltz will hold an M plus 4 other lens or it will hold two M's with a small lens attached and two other lens stacked. I stack my lens with foam between them and have for many years. Never had an issue.

I just had to have a Fogg bag and based on another forum member, I bought the Last Waltz.

Fogg's Last Waltz is tempting me grievously these days.

I find it curious that some would balk at the idea of paying $700 USD for a camera bag, but the same outlay of cash for a  half case and matching strap is not considered unseemly.  Both serve the same basic purpose, which is to protect the camera from damage during use, transport and walkabouts.

Fogg, Arte di Mano and Leica - none of these products are necessary for survival.  All three are quality of life products.  Owning and using them brings great satisfaction, enjoyment and fulfillment to some folk.

Since life is so fleeting with no guarantee that any of us will avoid the embalmer's table for another day, I see no evil in acquiring a select few possessions that bring a person an enhanced quality of life and a bit of joy.
