steinzeug Posted February 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am just wondering if Leica support is really as bad as a lot of threads have been implying? (slow repair times, bad responses, overtly expensive, lost tracking etc.) The Leica company portrays itself as making quality cameras for their customers specific needs, shouldn´t they be more accomodating? Has anyone had any good experinces of solms?

Steve Ash Posted February 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2010 To bypass your dealer and contact Leica CS directly is the fastest and cheapest way to do. I found to be serviced perfectly. Regards Steve
sarav Posted February 11, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2010 I tried both ways. Leica CS is very prompt and punctual in answering as does Italian Distributor through my Leica Dealer. First time I did directly with Leica and it was all ok, 2nd time I did it through distributor and it was all ok. since then I've been contacting my dealer for every tasks. In every ways Leica Service is up to the brandname. Yesterday I sent my M9 and 3/4 of my lenses to have them perfectly adjusted, I'll write again as soon as I'll receive my treasure back. LotharZhou Posted February 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2010 I sent my M8 through my dealer to fix the coffee ring issue, it's back in 3 weeks and very reliable indeed. No complains.
Buzz Kanter Posted February 13, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 13, 2010 I sent my M8 back to Leica with a blown sensor board under warrantee here in the US. They were so backed up it took them 4 weeks to fix my camera. They were professional and did a good job just very slow.
Photon42 Posted February 13, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 13, 2010 My experience with both Leica Germany and Switzerland has always been extremely helpful, client oriented and professional. Their customer service really deserves the name. Rgds Ivo

Jeff S Posted February 13, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 13, 2010 Jaap, I recall your uncharacteristic gripe when you dealt with a lens issue not too long ago...that must have been the 1% (I only took note since it was so unusual given your other supportive posts.) Jeff PS to OP...My Leica NJ customer experience has likewise been extremely positive
jaapv Posted February 13, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 13, 2010 Indeed that was it. It was migitated, however, by the return of a lens that I can focus within the native DOF of the sensor (provided I do it right).

vanhulsenbeek Posted February 14, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 14, 2010 I am just wondering if Leica support is really as bad as a lot of threads have been implying? Has anyone had any good experinces of solms? So guys; while the title of this thread (cleverly?) suggests that "Leica Service is bad", the message conveyed in the thread is that it is not bad. Is that fair on Leica? Shouldn't the OP change the title?
ArtZ Posted February 14, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 14, 2010 I am just wondering if Leica support is really as bad as a lot of threads have been implying? (slow repair times, bad responses, overtly expensive, lost tracking etc.) NO! (for Solms, I don't know about Leica NJ) The Leica company portrays itself as making quality cameras for their customers specific needs, shouldn´t they be more accomodating? Has anyone had any good experinces of solms? YES! Though I make a difference between Customer Service and Repair Service. Customer Service is always very helpful but when you get your item(s) back from the Repair Service, you won't always get it right at the first time... wilfredo Posted February 15, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 15, 2010 My expereinces with Allendale, N.J. have been generally good and prompt except that I had to return my M8 for a second round of repairs because they did not manage to solve the problem the first time around. Currently it is taking them two months to return the camera which I suspect means they have a load of repairs on their hands. Any Leica can break down. I've had to send them an MP and M7 in the past. My M2 continues to work just fine.
jlindstrom Posted February 15, 2010 Share #14 Posted February 15, 2010 To put it simply: No. I've had nothing but good experience with Leica service in Solms. People complaining about long service times should also take not of their own current location and how long it takes to ship something to Germany and back. If you don't pay extra for faster delivery, it could easily take close to a week one way... so if it takes say 3 week, out of that 1,5 weeks could be just shipping. Consider that before complaining. Also, Leicas service does excellent job in many ways.. with all major repairs and updates they do a whole CLA to the camera and it comes back with additional 1 year factory warranty. I for one don't mind slightly slower turnaround when that's the reward for the waiting! And to top it all, just email M8support @Leica and they'll answer back in a reasonable time to tell you what's going on with your camera. Ofcourse there are always cases when things don't go right, everybody sometimes cocks up things. But generally I'd rate Leica service as nothing short of excellent. rami G Posted February 15, 2010 Share #15 Posted February 15, 2010 Sorry, I am replying to the title, I don't have time to read the whole thread: I have always found Leica, Solms to give the best and most generous service I have ever received. In particular, I had countless experiences of receiving free service beyond warranty. I had that with my first M6ttl and with my 35 lux asph. Lately, after my M8u did not meet my demands and, I guess, Leica's standards, (after a paid full upgrade) my camera was replaced for a M8.2- brand new. I did not have similar positive experience with Leica NJ, and in fact, whenever I really needed service they ended up sending it to Solms.
vanhulsenbeek Posted February 15, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 15, 2010 I have always found Leica, Solms to give the best and most generous service I have ever received. Same for me. My M8 went to Solms for a sensorcleaning twice. ( Once a year I do that) First time they included it - not that I asked for it - in the warranty and it cost nothing. Second time I paid 40 EUR or so. Both times they did many extra's, like a CLA and a RF adjustment. Same M8 went back for a darn blue sensor-line plus the shutter etc update. Also lots of extra things and only the shutter update etc. to pay. I have no complaints!
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 15, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 15, 2010 Can anyone here name a product that lasts as long and works as well as those from Leica? My D2 died, and they replaced the sensor for free. I've had no problems with 2 Leica D2X (film) cameras -- one of which I bounced off a concrete floor from 3 feet up -- and the other of which my son slammed against a tree while it was in the outside pocket of his backpack. I dropped my M4 (in a canvas bag) -- no problems. Maybe that parking lot had softer than usual blacktop? I've had 2 older lanses CLA'd and they just take better images. If every manufacturing company behaved like this we wouldn't be getting poison in the food from China.

jsrockit Posted February 15, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 15, 2010 3 months? Are they out of their minds?
jaapv Posted February 15, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 15, 2010 In Solms standard turnaround on the M9 is five working days. The general aim is to turn over 80% of repairs around within 5 days.
