iforum Posted November 13, 2011 Share #461 Posted November 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Old glass seems to excel with prints, somehow the back lit screens tend to remove the subtle nature of the lens rendering.
Advertisement Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Hi iforum, Take a look here M8 and Old Glass. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DBAUDUI1 Posted December 30, 2011 Share #462 Posted December 30, 2011 Hello,, Would you use a UV/IR filter on it, and if yes what type? I checked for a A36 one, but did not find any. Best regards. Dominique
wlaidlaw Posted December 30, 2011 Share #463 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) There are in theory available A36 to e39 adapters but they are quite expensive SOOGZ. There is a UK dealer with a couple at the moment - google for them. Forum rules prevent me posting a link. The adapter for Summitars to fit e39 filters is an SNHOO. I have given up trying to find one. Don Goldberg was making one for me but I got bored with chasing him and three years later I am still waiting. Now I have the M9, on which filters are not a requirement, mainly using my M8 with a Visoflex, I am no longer bothered. Wilson PS - I see those good people at Heavystar now have new SNHOO's on the shelf. Edited December 30, 2011 by wlaidlaw
rickp13 Posted December 30, 2011 Share #464 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) Hello,, Would you use a UV/IR filter on it, and if yes what type?I checked for a A36 one, but did not find any. Best regards. Dominique maybe your local optician can cut down a uv/ir filter glass (being very careful) to fit the A36 holder? i've had that done for other oddball filter types and sizes. so far so good you can look for colored or scratched A36 filters to get the frame you need - they're sometimes cheaper and/or easier to find. greetings from hamburg rick Edited December 30, 2011 by rickp13 typo

Heavystar make an E39 to Summitar adapter, only a few quid, get one via their Ebay shop. Steve
wlaidlaw Posted December 30, 2011 Share #466 Posted December 30, 2011 Steve, I had added that as a PS to my message. Just after first posting it, it had a look on their eBay shop and found it. Last time I asked them they said they did not do one yet. Rick, Cutting UV/IR filters down may not always work. Leica told us when we started using 49mm filters in special holders for the Wide Angle Tri Elmar on the M8, in place of the 67mm filter , that the UV absorption changed radially on some of the filters. Thus the 49 mm filter was not necessarily the same as the centre of the 67mm filter. Wilson

samiba Posted January 19, 2012 Share #473 Posted January 19, 2012 I know I am 50% off topic, but also a big fan of old glass. This is an example of Summaron 35/3.5 on M3 using Agfa APX100. I am quite astonished what this little gem is capable of. Some more Summaron 35/3.5 in my album http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/members/28948-albums5224.html Kind regards, Michael Welcome, dear visitor! Guest JMF Posted March 13, 2012 Share #478 Posted March 13, 2012 Hi, I've been lurking and enjoying this thread a lot and I thought I'd share a couple of pics ! The first 4 were shot with a 90 collapsible Elmar 1957 on a M8 (no filter) . The 5th done with a Canon 85 1.8 in M mount (old conversion) on the M8, no filter. Cheers Jean-Marc.
