stuny Posted November 27, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jeff came home from Iraq just in time for Tyler's birth. Now they've moved back north and I was able to catch this shot of our niece Sarah and her on Thanksgiving. Welcome, dear visitor! Overgaard Posted November 27, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 27, 2006 The tones and colors are great. Even the curtain seem to belong it his shot. It is very harmonic. I also like that she looks natural in the shot (read overworked mother takes a nap).
martinop Posted November 27, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 27, 2006 The composition/framing and profile + the natural look/lighting and colors are very appealing to me.
jmr Posted November 27, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuart, what a beautifully peaceful picture. The whole composition works very well, thanks.
petert531 Posted November 27, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 27, 2006 Nice feeling and light. I'd crop out the little bit of window and straighten it out a bit in PS. I'm not a fan of the legs, I find this so hard myself I just come in tight. I have know clue myself, but you may have gotten down lower for a different perspective. abrewer Posted November 27, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 27, 2006 Superb rendering of the scene, Stuart...composition, color, contrast...all spot-on here. Thanks for sharing. Allan
pemayeux Posted November 27, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 27, 2006 Very nice Stuart. I'm sure this shot will be a treasured fond memory by the subjects. Great color and light.
stuny Posted November 27, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted November 27, 2006 Ivan, Paul, John, Allan & Paul - Thank you very much. Thorsten - yes she was very tired, and that was one of the things I was tryng to capture -- I'm glad you spotted it. Thank you. Peter - I'm usually rather sensitive to tilted horizons, but missed it this time. I'll either try rotating it a bit and posting it, or post one of the other exposures (this was the 4th of 4, all of which I liked). You're probably right about shooting from a lower angle. Regarding the legs, though not the most graceful portion of the shot I felt they added to the overall composition. Thank you for taking the time to comment. fotografr Posted November 27, 2006 Share #12 Posted November 27, 2006 Sweet shot, Stuart. I won't start on Iraq.
JHAG Posted November 27, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 27, 2006 On both occurrences, I would second fotografr. @Stu There is a strange play here between the hands of the mother, one curled over her head in abandon, the other holding on dear life of her baby, her foot, curled both in protection and cozyness, and the hands of the baby, closed in sleep. The tones convey a true sense of muffled afternoon sounds in the house.
Michael-IIIf Posted November 27, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 27, 2006 Stuart, this is a beautiful study of a beautiful girl. Very tender.
brunom Posted November 28, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 28, 2006 Stuart What a nice photo ! Have you considered cropping the top down to just above the hand, and the bottom to just below the jeans ? For me that makes the picture much stronger and intimate. squanmis Posted November 28, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 28, 2006 I like the picture very much. Mothers don't get much rest with little ones. Great mother and child capture. Thanks for sharing. John
semrich Posted November 28, 2006 Share #18 Posted November 28, 2006 Stuart, a very tender moment captured with love and presented with justifiable parental pride. To my eye I wouldn't touch a thing about it, the sliver of the light source coming in the window, warmed by the window shears with its lines adds to all the other lines in the couch, jeans, and random angles of the body positions all contribute to the geometery of the scene. stuny Posted November 28, 2006 Author Share #19 Posted November 28, 2006 Johan, Michael, Paul, John & Richard - thankyou. Brent - Thank you, and I supose we could go on for quite some time, on the same side of that political argument. Perhaps sometime via email. Bruno - Thank you. An intersting suggestion. Hopefully tonight I'll have a chance to experiment with your suggestion and with Peter's.
