mooky Posted October 28, 2009 Share #21 Posted October 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Keep using my R's and SL/SL2's. Why not? Digital isn't everything. Leica will come out with a body of some type to use the glass on. I can wait; AND enjoy every transparency I shoot.

Doc Henry Posted October 28, 2009 Share #22 Posted October 28, 2009 Now that we've all come to terms with the death of the R, and there will be no further evolution toward a LEICA DSLR using the R lens mount, and these have been discontinued, what are most of you in the R family planning to do? 1. Keep using them until your R cameras or digital backs die? Perhaps one repair after that? 2. Purchase a DSLR and adapters for R lenses? 3. Sell all your R gear? I was looking forward to an "R" DSLR but since that never happened I purchased a new Canon 5D II and I am now starting to add R lenses to my gear. I love the results. Wilfredo, remind you I am in the 1st category because i am the "orthodox Leica of strict observance" http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/102061-one-you-3.html and I have just signed Gautier's petition : http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/103641-petition-leica-r10-2.html Kind regards Henry
hamey Posted October 28, 2009 Share #23 Posted October 28, 2009 80-200/4 + DMR (still the best DSLR out there IMO) Lovely shot, well done. That 80-200 is a wonderful lens, I have one too and simply love it. Ken.

wilfredo Posted October 28, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted October 28, 2009 I've also signed the petition for the R10. I believe this is the first time in Leica history that customers and photographers are actually petitioning the design of a new camera from Leica. R10. How about we hear from Leica before 10/10/10 ? http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/103641-petition-leica-r10-2.html
Guest EarlBurrellPhoto Posted October 28, 2009 Share #26 Posted October 28, 2009 After a short go at the DMR I sold it (ISO above 400 was 2 stops behind the curve even then, now it's about 4). Kept the lenses and fiddled with them on my Canons for a while, but in my work the stopdown was a deal killer. Focussing was a snap for me, but stopping down wasted time and the metering wasn't linear at smaller apertures so I had to think about compensating. Most EF lenses are as good or better than the R lenses I had. I did keep the 19/2.8 though...there's nothing like it in the Canon stable.
dkCambridgeshire Posted October 28, 2009 Share #27 Posted October 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There are always (hopefully - if Leica longevity applies) the Leica S1 cameras to consider if eg a still life photographer wants to create superb digital images using R lenses ... and the cameras can also use M lenses too! Cheers dunk

I have two "L" lenses but in my experience they are not as good and definitely not better than R lenses, although I am very pleased with them but I'm blown away by what I get with R and Zeiss prime lenses. I've seen some very good comparisons on the Fred Miranda Forum and Zeiss and R lenses usually beat out the "L" lenses.

lct Posted October 29, 2009 Share #30 Posted October 29, 2009 ...Most EF lenses are as good or better than the R lenses I had... Too bad i ignored that. I wouldn't have bothered to use R lenses with my 5D otherwise. Which particular Canon lenses do you consider as good or better than their Leica counterparts if i may ask? Just extremely curious. K Davis Posted November 1, 2009 Share #31 Posted November 1, 2009 I've had great fun using both my Leica M and R series lenses on a Panasonic G1 and getting good results through this combination: G1 Macro Shots with Leica 135 Apo Telyt - a set on Flickr Panasonic G1 - Leica Lenses - a set on Flickr
alfie Posted November 23, 2009 Share #32 Posted November 23, 2009 Hello I am the new kid on the block and want to bye a leica camera and lenses. The M or the R serie analog Best regards from Belgium
anabasis Posted November 23, 2009 Share #33 Posted November 23, 2009 I suspect that film or the required batteries for my R8 will be scarce before the lenses or body wear out given my shooting habits with that camera. If those come to pass, I will get adapters to convert my glass to Nikon mount. JCA
