Why not ? Leica can listen to its customers.

Alas they also have to listen to their accountants. Don't get me wrong, I'd love you guys to have an R10, but the thought that somehow Leica are going to change their mind because of an online petition is hopelessly optimistic.

With the current delivery times of S2, X1 and M9 I think it was wise not to promise a R10 as well.

If economics was part of saying it won't be, I don't know. But from a resource standpoint alone it was correct estimated.

Personally I'm looking at ways to get the S2. I'm very curious as to what the actual package price will be when the S2 hits the stores. Double the price of M9 I guess would have me line up in the cue.

This petition is an excellent idea. Thanks for setting it up!

I find it questionable whether sales of the S2 system are going to be sufficient to offset the loss of business of many thousands of R system users, the vast majority of whom are not going to be candidates for the S2 system.

R system users are already many, and a full range of R lenses is already available. There are many many R users waiting to buy an R 10. One Leica dealer is said to have reported that he's had so far no calls for the S2, but he could have sold any number of R 10s if there had been any to sell.

Some people here say that Leica management has made its decision and will never change its mind to design and build the R 10. Do you all remember Leica's earlier decision that they were going to build an R 10? Indeed, we were told the project was already under way, and we knew the name of the head designer. So evidently Leica management changed its mind after that, and if they can change their mind once they can do it again.

Let's hope that sales of the M9, which already seems to be a winner, are very substantial, so much so that the company will feel financially strong enough to undertake the R 10 anew.

Cheers!

David

Gentlemen,

Just accept the fact - your Rs are behind you, I have a substantial investment in my own Rs but I am reconciled to the fact that it will gradually reduce.

Move on, eh?

Regards,

Bill

I am of the same opinion, The Leica R has been retired, the only manual focus camera that Leica is going to produce is the M system.

The S system is a another German Fantasy, it's doomed.

The X1 is a short term experiment --Hence X as used in expermental.

If the Jet set crowd buy it, and enough sales are generated it will most likely go into production for a few years and be a cheap entry (by Leica Standards) into the Leica system.

Leica will finely go back to it's roots, and only produce the M system.

Personally ..IF I WAS TO GO DIGITAL I WOULD STICK AND GO WITH THE HAVIES... in the likes of Nikon or Canon.

Cheers.

The M line was once dead too... That said, in the last few years there really hasn't been much interest in keeping the R line thriving on Leica's part, thus its inevitable demise. Therefore, I wouldn't hold my breath...

I sold my R5 & R7 plus a van load of lenses while there was still a secondhand market when it was clear that Leica were going nowhere very fast with digital SLRs. I now use Canon EOS. Leica is a niche market and no way would they ever be able to compete in volume, specification and price compared with Canon, Nikon and others who are struggling for a market share.

They can't even deliver M9s to satisfy current demand.

Um, question from the colonies, here: what is a "havie" ?

PS... I signed the petition anyway. Sigh. As someone who is always resorting to shooting Canon and Nikon I'd really rather not :)

What's a Heavy.

Well to me, Nikon and Canon.

Something thats big, established-well known, has planty of Cash to play with on R&D, and just about be bought anywere in the world, their equipment is good value for your money.

They are the two products that MOST PRO'S use and trust, the best Digital pictures I have seen have come from Nikon and Canon.

The Australian army got a big order on Nikon D3's, WHY, BECAUSE THEY WANT THE BEST ESPECIALLY IN A ENVIRONMENT THEY OPERATE IN.

I have been using my Leica Reflex cameras sinse 1973 and just love them however the facts are

The Japanese are the true Digital masters.

Cheers.
