  1. Regarding the modern, made in Japan, Zeiss ZM branded lenses for Leica M mount...Some have serial numbers starting with 51 but most appear to have serial numbers starting with 15 - even for the same model lens (eg, 50mm f/2 Planar).I thought I read some explanation for this but I cannot find it any more (and my memory is spotty). I tried asking the mfgr, Cosina but have not received an answer. Does any body know what the different prefixes signify?TiA.
  2. Got my first ever Leica M body last year. It's a M2. It came bundled with a Summicron 50mm F2 Collapsible. I'm really enjoying this combo, but I'm a 35mm shooter. I've found a Summaron 35mm 3.5 for sale in my country, for a decent price. It's serial number is the following: 1176436. However, I know that users have trouble defining their lens models, because they were produced in a large numbers. I've checked this one's number on a lot of different sources and foruns, but I failed on identifying it. The weird part is that checking through this website: https://reddotcamera.net/leica/serial-number-tool/ and in this page: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Summaron_f%3D_3.5_cm_1:3.5 The information I have is that this lens is identified as a Summicron 50mm f/2, build in the year 1954 and a Summicron 5 cm 1:2 (M), respectively. Why is that? Has anyone here ever seen one of these? I wanted this to be the M2 version (to activate the 35mm framelines) but I have no clue what this all means. Any guesses are welcome. Thanks!
  3. Hi all, I have with me a black 35mm summicron. The inscription on the top says in caps 'SUMMICRON 1:2/35 LEITZ WETZLAR' with a serial number 275****. Now I am a bit confused, because according to the lists I've consulted on the net, with that serial number this lens should have been made in Canada and probably inscribed as Leitz Canada? At the bottom of the lens barrel the inscription says in captial letters 'LENS MADE IN GERMANY'. Do I have here a production line freak or have I misunderstood the history of it and that it is a common item? Help much appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Dear all, any ideas about replacing my slipped-away rubber-plastic eyepiece for Digilux 3 please? Serial number, perhaps? With thanks, illya
  5. I have a Hektor f1.9 73mm with Serial Number 98732. All the serial number listings that I've seen do not include this number. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Greetings to the forum! I am new to forum and this is my first post. I recently purchased an summarit 50mm f1.5 on Ebay. But just now I noticed that its serial number is not in the range of summarit on any source online, this for example: https://reddotcamera.net/leica-lenses/serial-number/ . My lens' serial number is 1000025. The closest match is summarit 1000000 (https://www.nocsensei.com/camera/tecnica/marco-cavina/marcocavina/leitz-summarit-50mm-115/). and accroding to the record 1000001 should be an Elmar. Want to ask the forum whether cases like this are usual in leica lens production, building a little bit more than planned and not recording them? Is this lens a valid lens? Should I report this case to the database? Thank you! the figure is attached!
  7. I was wondering if any of you leica history buffs could help me out on this weird topic. I recently bought my first leica m, an m4-p. I know the camera had to have been in the last group of 2223 m4-p's produced because it has the m6 top plate windows and single pc port. The issue is that the serial number isn't registered to any leica m4-p's. It's registered to a leica r3. Since production for those cameras ended almost a decade before my camera was ever made, I was wondering what the cause could be. Just a mistake? Hopefully not a fake... the serial # is 1468592 thanks for any input -Massoud
  8. Hi Everybody,I'm a new one to the leica world especially to digital leica camera. I got a used leica M8 camera on ebay about a month ago with around 5000 shutter counts and Firmware 2.014. Camera comes only with charger and battery,no box or other accessory.Seller said he has no problem since owned it. After I got the camera I checked the shutter num directly in the body debug data in the service menu and it did have around 5000 exposurecounts and the camera seems works fine.I registed the camera in leica.com and even got 2 UV/IR filters with the serial num on the hotshoe(3104318 which seems an early products...) since the previous owner seems didn't apply for them. But recently when I was playing with the camera,I occasionally entered the service menu and played with all the options in the menu other than just the debug data, and that's where I thinkg the problem starts:when I entered the firmware info option in the service menu(please see attached pic),I found that the serial num didn't match the one on the hotshoe(3103771)!!!!! I'm so confused and nervous now,I paid almost $1500 for the camera... Anybody have any idea on this?Could it be the previous owner cheated on the camera? Why the serial num didn't match?Could it be the top plate including the hotshoe was not the original one(3103771) due to serious damage? And thus was replaced from another dead camera for parts(3104318) ? Please help me out,any idea or suggestions will be really appreciated~~~ I'll need to contact the seller to see if we can work something out if this is really a big problem although I've left positive feedback for him....
