#4 - would have been magnificent, and in a whole lot better taste than that abomination Hearst built to celebrate his ego and wealth.

Thanks for looking,

One of the first imagesx with new SL & 24-90 Vario--Elmarit-SL over the weekend.

It'll take some getting accustomed to what I view as essentially 'a computer with a lens at the front', but I really like the concept and most of the features……..to paraphrase Humphrey Bogart:"Leica, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship".

Not too far from the East entrance into Yosemite NP, off Hwy 395 between Bridgeport & Lee Vining is the old 'ghost-town' of Bodie. Said to be the best preserved and authentic of the old goldrush mining camps, it has never required restoration since it is at 8400 feet and is located in one of the driest spots in the West.

A couple of the dozens of remaining structures built between 1859 and about the turn of the century........highly recommended for an interesting day of shooting.

SL / 24-90.

JZG,

Very nice....Bodie is such a cool place to visit. I was there about 20 years ago. If you are with a photo workshop, they will let them in early I have been told. I was there with just another photographer and we had to wait till 9 or 10 but it was still good lighting.

Thanks, Bill.

You're right, Bodie is a very interesting location. Being quite remote really adds to its draw, since one can just spend as much time as you wish and practice / experiment with multiple aspects of photography..............just make sure you bring a tripod, layered clothing,  lunch - and lots of water.

Here are another couple of images from a recent trip, showing that indeed the State Park System prefers not to restore, but favors their long-standing policy of "controlled decay", i.e. leave things to age and deteriorate naturally ( the town is at approx. 8400 feet and it's exceedingly dry year-round, so things pretty much last forever ) thus merely preventing complete collapse of the various remaining buildings by fairly primitive and imaginative, but effective methods.

All in all, a wonderful place for great photography.

I love these flat two dimensional images.......and then I discover the window in a window in a window and the image takes on a third dimension and gets even Better! Beautiful shot!

(there is a good one posted in the Architectural Thread of a wall in Venice California that has a similar surprise)
