Sure to make those photos you can also use a 50 Summitar or a mobile phone.

The 50mm f/1.4 ASPH Lux if not used properly, with little light, it's just a waste of money. Then we can speak of Bokeh and words, words, words, but in the end are just words, the facts are there, looking at those photos.

This is my opinion.

That is nonsense. I owned the Summicron, but sold it when I bought the Summilux ASPH way back in '05. F-stop for f-stop, the Summilux ASPH is at least as good as the Summicron all the way up to f:16. Suggesting that it is a waste of money unless I always use it wide upen, is absurd. This is simply my use-it-on-everything 50mm lens.

Whether you like the pictures or not is another story, but the Summitar (f/2) or, worse, a mobile phone, will not give you such a thin DoF, sharpness on the focal plane, etc.

Again, you may not like the result, but that's a personal view.

And I would argue that having both daylight and low-light capabilities in a compact lens is actually a money saver if you need versatility.

 

Just a different opinion, of course...

I said that is my opinion. You can express your own, different from mine, but you can not say: "... That Is nonsense" or worse: "... is absurd." It's just a matter of respect of others thoughts and opinions, just as properly ECAR: "... Just a different opinion, of course ...". To me, anyone can spend their money, how much and how he wants. My opinion is different and the assumption that buying a Ferrari 456 to go at the speed of a bicycle is a waste of money. Might as well ride a bike. But I like the hyperbole. The rhetorical thinking is a matter of culture. Some people have it and who does not.

Do not denigrate and trivialize the ideas of others and respect the different opinions is synonymous with civilization. Those who prefer the single thought is his problem and the country that receives it. In the thirties and forties there were those who wanted a single thought, and we know how that turned out.

Please respect other opinions without delegitimize.

And that's it.

Anyway, politeness etc. has nothing to do with it Lars is totally correct about the summilux's merits as should be obvious even for the ill informed. Nonsense sounds pretty close to the mark from where I am sitting.

Mmmm somehow I had not expected to find Plato cropping up this morning. What I have read of Plato is not particularly worthwhile anymore. Just like the hare and the tortoise does not make sense within the framework of the current understanding of infinite series. But we digress.

The Summilux does not need a sponsor.

It sells itself, and quite a lot.

Unfortunately it does not deliver enough, so the wait to buy is a bit long.

After intense discussions of the teacher and the novice it was concluded otherwise IIRC. Also the number of (floating) elements did not quite agree with the model developed previously.

The OP asked about Voigtlander bodies. The answer is that they are good enough for Lee Friedlander -- check out his latest book called Mannequins, which is brilliant. Also uses XP2. Also Leitz and Leica lenses. No rigid brand loyalty there, just finding the gear that works for you.

Post #48. This whole thread has been largely an exercise in futility. I prefer to get my information from people who test rigorously (Reid), phoptographer friends, and sources of collective wisdom like Jeff Hirsch at FotoCare in NY. Not all opinions are equal.
