I always love these "in depth" reviews from Cereos mags but since they seem to be proliferating (iMotor, iGizmo etc) I am guessing they are getting enough advertising to pay - nice work if you can get it. I am just jealous really.

They forgot to mention that you also get a free appointment at a tattoo parlour with a white M8, to have "Dork" tattooed on your forehead.

In the weekly magazine which comes out with the Manchester Evening News there is a headline under the technology section :" Leica overhauls classic camera".The sub heading follows with : "German photo expert redesigns iconic model for summer"

Elsewhere "not only does it look incredible" and "Leica`s trademark wide-angled lens that is practically distortion-free,even at close focus range".

At the end of the article ( only the highlights are shown above) the credit goes to Leica-camera .co.uk

I think they should make the next batch in Dayglow yellow.:D

Brian - that's word for word the same article! Perhaps the copy was provided by Leica UK as a press release ?

Still, it's all publicity.

I agree and I bet the run of White M8`s soon sells.Personally I dont like the Black paint version any better.I prefer the Black chrome.

A short while ago Gitzo made a limited edition of Titanium (traveller) tripods at £1500 each.A friend tried to buy one recently and they are all sold.

I think the important thing is that Leica are selling product and hopefully making a profit.Thats the only way we are going to see a full frame M camera. As long as its available in Black or Silver chrome .Mind you Dayglow green would not be all that bad:D

I'm almost ashamed to say that both the Safari and White M8's over time are growing on me ... Does this mean I need therapy?

Graham,

Not sure about the Safari but the white one yerchhhhh - book an appointment with a psychiatrist on Monday for your own good.

It is a suitable prop for one of those low budget films, where the hero arrives up in heaven and the snotty angel clerk at the gate, dressed all in white, takes his ID picture with a white M8.

You know... it has only just occured to me... maybe this hideous piece of crap is actually designed to cause a strong reaction to create publicity for Leica? Maybe it is actually a brilliantly crafted piece of PR?

On the other hand it could just be a hideous piece of crap which inadvertently creates a lot of publicity....

Ah yes, I almost forgot about all the (bad) jokers when Leica is in question.

I personally find the white M8.2 to be very good looking. And I'd buy it if I had money. If I was rich I'd also own a helicopter I'd ride about twice a year. All the poor people would make jokes about my lifestyle and my money spending on stupid things such as Ferraris when I could own 25 Toyotas instead. But I'd be too busy sipping a pina colada in a mansion to be worried by the jokers and the poor people.

No, I changed my mind: If I was rich I'd buy Two white M8.2 and One Safari M8.2.

Leica continues to become more and more bizarre. Maybe they hope the fact that the camera is white will divert the user's attention from its uncorrected flaws.

Personally, I'm waiting for the U2/Bono signature version that comes with a preloaded song that plays when you turn on the camera.

Why don't you throw in a touch screen lcd ? Maybe when Apple buys Leica.

OK, I am going to revive an old-ish thread.

I think the "Tush" magazine ad for the white M8 on the Leica site is killer. If I had a spare 10 grand laying around, I would get the white M8.2 and a chrome 28 Summicron. The pink IR filter on it would look stunning.

And it would be a perfect fit for a few things of a well heeled nature that I shoot. A Leica makes a statement as it is, why hold back?

I have to admit, when put in the context of the image on the Leica site, it looks stunning!

So does a Pink Cadillac, I wouldn't be caught dead w/ either.

:)

Pink Cadillac and white Leica send different messages. A white camera looks clean, modern and stylish, like many Apple products. It would make a cool statement for the right photographer. I agree with KM-25.

Edited to add: However, the white camera is an M8, not an M8.2.
