telewatt Posted July 3, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I'm a german photographer, and I'm thinking now some week about doing a book. We get a lot of very nice pictures here and when we do it together it is not so expensive to get a side with the picture and a short story... what do you think about it?! ...I did my Book about "Bilbao" myself and it works very well, you can't by a copy now... regards, Jan

johnnyj Posted July 4, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2006 Jan, It's and intriguing idea. How do you propose to go about it? It would be good publicity for Leica I would think. I would be interested. Best Regards, John
Overgaard Posted July 4, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2006 It's actually a great idea. Besides the work and organizing, a book with 200 photos (from 100 photographers?) cold be made in hardback and each photographer could get his own 10 personal books for 200 Euro plus shipping. I'm just calculation off my head on a similar project (240 pages hardback in 10"x12") "100 Leica photographers" Of course the easiest thing would be to have a publishing house stock and ship it and perhaps put some of them into bookstores and libraries. hm1912 Posted July 4, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2006 That's a cool idea. I would be interested too.
phybron Posted July 4, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 4, 2006 Having seen how easy it is to produce books out of Aperture I'd be interested as well, although I'm not sure my photos would be up to par...
stuny Posted July 4, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jan - Keep me up-to-date on your thoughts on this. Many years ago, when nobody had word processors I wrote a beginners book on photography, and then went to a book store and decided which publisher to approach. Six weeks later I had a contract and a list of required changes. They published the book and it was profitable (60,000 copies sold). Now that everybody has word processors you must have an agent to go through to a publisher, and agents generally will only accept bankable names, or those recommended by bankable names. Consequently, I have a completed humourous novel set in the Vietnam era that I cannot submit, but I am intersted in Jan's proposal. Stuart
earleygallery Posted July 4, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 4, 2006 Wasn't a similar idea mooted a while ago (on the old forum)? I know it didn't fly, but I'm not sure of the reasons. I think people started talking about copyright, royalties, profits etc. I like the idea though and I'd be interested in participating.

JHAG Posted July 4, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 4, 2006 I am too ! — hope I won't appear too presumptuous, being mostly a novelist in France, and secondly a (not professional) photographer

Rona!d Posted July 4, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 4, 2006 Not a new but a very good idea. The (old) german forum did this 2 years ago. A lot of wonderful pictures in their book and you can maybe still order it. I would be interested in a copy, if the brilliant photographers of this forum would make a book. Best, Ronald
elansprint72 Posted July 4, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 4, 2006 One of my treasures is a book that belonged to my old man: My Leica and I, Leica Amateurs show their Pictures. This dates from the 1930's and it is about time that we did an update! wrt copyright and royalties, if I had insisted on getting all my dues, I would be considerably richer than I am now! Let's do it. Pete.
andybarton Posted July 4, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 4, 2006 I'm in. But never having sold a photo I couldn't give a stuff about royalties.
