dem331 Posted December 20, 2014 Share #14782 Posted December 20, 2014 39 steps is the John Buchan book and Hitchcock film, but although some of the action takes place in Scotland, I can not make the connection
dem331 Posted December 20, 2014 Share #14783 Posted December 20, 2014 Of course... The John Buchan museum in Peebles, says Google. I have never heard of Peebles, it is in the Scottish Borders. Population 8000! Pretty impressive monuments.
Jim-St Posted December 20, 2014 Share #14784 Posted December 20, 2014 You got it, Enrique! Well done. The War Memorial is actually in the Quadrangle of the Chambers Institution in Peebles - a market town that developed into a centre for spa tourism in the C19 - still has a Hydro Hotel, and remains a fairly opulent place today. The Buchan Museum is in a part of the Chambers Inst that is actually 180º behind me in the shot. The building at the end of the Quad is the Peebles Burgh Hall. It is a remarkably elaborate war memorial, reflecting civic pride as much as anything else I think: more info in attached pic Over to you... ______________ Jim Welcome, dear visitor! Michael Hiles Posted December 22, 2014 Share #14798 Posted December 22, 2014 Perhaps Conques?
dem331 Posted December 22, 2014 Share #14799 Posted December 22, 2014 Conques looks beautiful, but it is further south. Carcassonne is the nearest mentioned aomfar, and it is south-east of there.
Jim-St Posted December 22, 2014 Share #14800 Posted December 22, 2014 Is the mountain Canigou/ El Canigo? I'm thinking we may be somewhere near Prades in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. But the architecture in your shot is quite atypical fro this area from what I can remember (or Google) Jim
