Jim-St Posted January 4, 2015 Share #14846 Posted January 4, 2015 True, there is nothing much of the Breton vernacular style here. But don't let that mislead you Jim

Michael Hiles Posted January 5, 2015 Share #14850 Posted January 5, 2015 Sometimes interiors are a little problematic, but... This staircase is justifiably famous. Welcome, dear visitor! Jim-St Posted January 8, 2015 Share #14856 Posted January 8, 2015 Not an easy one, but I'm fairly clear now (thanks, Google) this is the Bernini staircase in the Villa Barberini. Not one I've seen, but thanks, Michael, for flagging up what looks like an essential visit for my next Rome trip Jim
Michael Hiles Posted January 8, 2015 Share #14857 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Jim, You're absolutely right. The staircase is beautiful. It is on the left as you enter the Palazzo Barberini. On the right of the entrance is another equally famous staircase by Borromini - the Bernini staircase is basically square - all right angles. The Borromini example is oval, and equally beautiful. But I prefer the Bernini one. In addition to the beautiful architecture, the collection of pictures housed in the Palazzo Barberini is worth a visit to Rome all on its own. Don't miss it.
