Advertisement Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Hi ejd, Take a look here Your Oldest Leica, how old?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 2, 2009 Share #22 Posted January 2, 2009 My oldest LEICA is a >>LENEU<< No. 59 68x from 1930, the next one a IIIG made in 1957 followed by a LEICA M2 from 1962. The M2 is still being used regularly, but unfortunately the M8 is lurking round the corner. Future pixelphotography will never be what the ancestors could do, or could have done if I would have been a better photographer. HAPPY NEW LEICA- YEAR without too many new pricelists ... Best ________________ PS >> William I just realized, that you started this thread, fine idea ! Hope, all is well on your side of the globe. Best wishes Karl
pgk Posted January 2, 2009 Share #23 Posted January 2, 2009 My oldest Leica is my M8 from 2007! On the other hand my oldest lens is a 1968 35mm Summicron which takes excellent images when combined with a technology which it most certainly wasn't designed for! bill Posted January 2, 2009 Share #26 Posted January 2, 2009 How come ? ..... Sorry, KG, I am just being ironic. There are many who post in the m8 sub-forum that are aware of Leica's history, but there are plenty of others who seem to believe that nothing existed before the M8... LeonardT Posted January 2, 2009 Share #27 Posted January 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My IIIa was made in 1935. I had it recalibrated -- shutter adjusted, rangefinder rebuilt -- but alas, I haven't used it so much recently. It's in excellent condition. Should I keep it? David, Keep your IIIa. You have it in top shape now. Put at least one roll through it to feel the rewards of the rebirth you've given it. Len
treeplanter Posted January 2, 2009 Share #28 Posted January 2, 2009 M3 made in 1954. Even though the rangefinder is a bit faint, I still use it on occasion. Jim B.
iShutterbug Posted January 2, 2009 Share #29 Posted January 2, 2009 My ii was made in 1937. It can be seen at: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/63050-leica-ii.html#post716947 It was the last camera I shot in 2008. I took it out with it's Elmar 5cm and Summaron 3.5cm, made in 1942 and 1954, respectively: ishutterbug's photos- powered by SmugMug I'm really having a good time and getting some great shots with my LTMs.

doubice Posted January 3, 2009 Share #32 Posted January 3, 2009 'Oldest' film Leica that I still use on a relatively regular basis is an M6 from 1987. My oldest bodies, both fully functional and even used from time to time; unfortunately not often enough.... 1) Leica model II - no.23972 (1930, factory converted from model I.) 2) Leica model I - no. 39699 (1930) Best, Jan Welcome, dear visitor! Bill Sorry Bill, I simply couldn't resist. There are many who post in the none M8 fora who are also aware of Leica's history, but who seem to believe that nothing exists after film... (only kidding!). I've just sold my last non-digital Leica (an early Wetzlar M6) - a sad moment but it just wasn't getting used, so...
adan Posted January 4, 2009 Share #35 Posted January 4, 2009 The oldest Leica that I almost still own (traded it last week for a lens) was a 1977 M4-2. One of the first 2000 built. I think I ran a roll of Ektar 100 through it in November, but other than that it was just stiffening up in (yep!) a glass case, so I figured it might as well go into the marketplace for someone else to actually use and enjoy. It was the first Leica I bought in this go-around with the marque, so it had a bit of sentimental value. Just not enough to let it die away on the shelf. tobey bilek Posted January 4, 2009 Share #36 Posted January 4, 2009 111c and 111f up through two very early M6 `s, one chrome, one black. The M6`sl take the Leica cassettes and DR and visos without a problem. I will not get a newer body.
pvsrv Posted January 8, 2009 Share #37 Posted January 8, 2009 1952 IIIf with a 50mm Summitar. Though in very good working condition, the rangefinder needs servicing. So, off it goes to Sherry Krauter later this week. The M6 will serve as a fine alternative! Dan

Michael Hiles Posted January 8, 2009 Share #40 Posted January 8, 2009 My oldest Leica is a Model II from 1935. Still used very occasionally, and works perfectly after 73 years. Has an uncoated Summar, which produces somewhat hazy pictures. My newest camera is an M3 (999xxx) from 1960. Next is an M2 (989xxx) also from 1960. They still work flawlessly and should see me out.
