Your Oldest Leica, how old?

I wonder whether your oldest Leica is still serviceable and you actually use it?

And are you happy with the results?

Do you have a photo of it?

My oldest is not really old, a 1996 M6, and I still use it of course (this one with slide film).

Thanks,

William

My November 1960 M2 is exactly 9 months older than me (think about it ;) )

It is in better condition than me

And was used at our Chester meet this lunchtime. It works perfectly.

It was my first, and will be my last, Leica.

And here's something from November, shot with the M2 as above, on K64

Son of a gun, Andy!

My IIIa was made in 1935. I had it recalibrated -- shutter adjusted, rangefinder rebuilt -- but alas, I haven't used it so much recently. It's in excellent condition. Should I keep it?

Amazing to think of the people who built it, in that perilous time just before the outbreak of WWII. What became of them?

M3, 1959.

M6, 1987 (a baby).

Mini 3s, early 2000s.

Me, Jan 1963.

My oldest is a black/nickel Model II and 50mm f3.5 nickel Elmar, both made in 1932. It was CLA'd by DAG in September this year. It is my pocket camera when I go on my walks in the woods if the weather isn't too cold.

And here is one of the photos I took on my last walk with it in October

I have an M2 from the 1950's with a vintage lens. The results are better than I am as a photographer.

The real question is, do I want to sell off the old, pre-meter Leicas and get an M8.2? Not a decision to take lightly, for sure.

Andy that is beautiful. I really miss my M2, lost in Ajax Bay during the Falklands conflict. How I acquired it is an interesting story in itself but it had seen service in Vietnam and I always thought of it as a war camera.

Silky smooth and always came up with the goods.

Sweet thread, William, and very appropriate at the dawn of a new year.

Bet it will make some people considering getting an old Leica (it has already done it on me!). By the way, my oldest camera is a classic M6 from mid 90's.

A happy photo-2009 to all of you.

My oldest camera is my Leicaflex SL black chrome finish made 1968

.... 41 years old .....older then me :)

The SL and SL 2 are my all-time favorites 35m SLR cameras.

I still use both.

wls

btw: the lens - summicron 2:50 is also made 1968

That's amazing, I really didn't expect one this old to be in use!

Thanks Paul. I got as far as buying a dual-range 1956 50 mm earlier this (last) year. I need to see a really good body next. :)

Regards, and happy new year to you too,

William

Mine's a 1958 Button rewind M2 from the first series 93021X. It has its usual accessories, TA Rapidwinder and 35 pre-asph lux. Also my usual accompaniments - my Conway Stewart Ebonite Churchill pen and Ardbeg non chill-filter single Islay Malt.

Charlie

PS The non chill-filter is really important!

Good question!

Mine was born in 1930, and factory upgraded to a II in 1934. I use it every week since it is my carry-everywhere camera. I don't regard myself as owning it, just taking care of it for the next generation ;)
